Default Mixing Tap and RO water to lower Ec.

    Afternoon tokers😁

I've had the day off today and I've been reading up a bit more about my tap water.
I have very hard water with high traces of salts. I have tap water with Ec of 0.9ish and PH 7.5ish.

I'm trying to combat the yellowing during flower which I always suffer from. It shows as a cal or mag def but it's more likely the nute lock. I don't want to mess about adding cal mag or Epsom salts during the grow because Ive found that only makes things worse. My idea is to lower the Ec of my tap water by mixing it with RO water.

In effect giving me soft water?

Then I could just add a small amount of lime to the soil when mixing(because I have lower MG in my water than most) and then just use small amounts of grow and bloom when the plant tells me to.

Be interesting to hear what you guys think.

    Cheers

Have you tried playing with Dolomite lime?

That said, I can't really see why a high EC of the water would cause these issues....

I have a box of garden lime which I believe is the same? Never used it yet though.

I guess I haven't been clear, I'm blaming the high Ec of my water for my over feeding lol.

Most would use 1/2ml grow nutes per ltr to start off. I do that and instantly over feed. That leads me to just give plain water which still has high Ec so I'm still feeding the plant and not leaching it out like a lower EC would.

As soon as I make 1 wrong move, usually with a cal or mag issue, I get locked up and everything stops, because nothing comes back out with my high Ec.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but surely I can have water with a lower Ec available for when I need to leach after over doing it or when trying to add cal or mag?

    Does that make sense?

0.9 is huge! You definitely want to remove some of that shit. Water that high is usually really high in chlorine too, which isnt good for the bacteria in your soil. That might be a problem. Im thinking about getting some RO system set up, and my background ec is low! Like really low, 0.16 of the top of my head. But id still like to make sure my water was as free from anything as possible, there is shit in the water that are just not made for plants.

Water that high mate, I doubt you even need to add any cal mag at all. Itll have plenty in the water as trace elements. You can find out exactly whats in your water if you go to your water suppliers website. at 0.9, id definetely get an RO system set up, and let the water stand for atleast 24 hours before using it.... i wouldnt even drink that without a filter, never mind feed it to my plants lmao

Tell me about it mate, we have a fridge plumbed in to the wall with a filter, I have to change it every 3 months.

I've been looking for a while and I've found that my supply also has the highest traces of nitrates in the country. Apparently the legal requirement for drinking water is no more than 0.50% nitrates. Mine is 0.47%.
Most around the UK have between 0.15% and 0.20%.

I have a lot to contend with regarding my water.

Edit; I do leave my water to stand for a minimum of 24 hours to de gas too.

Don't start me on how often I have to clean my humidifier. If I don't do it weekly I have to buy another.

I just worry about the effect of a complete switch from high Ec tap to 0 Ec RO water.

I'm going to have to have a play about, does bottled water simulate RO water?

I might mix up some tap and some bottled to see how much the ec changes.

I guess I'm trying to create soft water.

I had trouble getting dolomite lime and that's why I ended up with that, never opened it though.
