Default Problems growing in a hard water area, advice please!

I've been really struggling the last couple of years as my water has got worse & worse, EC out of the tap now is about 0.5, PH about 8 ! I use soil, COB light's & auto's and am having to re-think how I grow now.

I can't do the RO thing here & so was wondering if anyone could advise the next best thing, I need to re-educate myself. What works for you if your in a hard water area? Do hard water nutes improve things at all? What soil to use instead of the peat based Plagron light mix stuff I've been using? Should I go organic ? Etc...

Thanks for any help & pointers

Ph down might help, people say not to ph water for soil. That is for city folk, get your water to 7 then look for other problems with your grow.

    I have hard water.

The best ph for soil is 6.5 most tap water will come out 7 ish, which is ok, but some can come out at 8, which is no good. Mine is 7.4, I'd still ph to 6.5 if growing in soil

Pump water is great. Mine has plenty of iron, lime, and lots of other things. PH is 7.5. I have use rain water before it is good also, but without all the iron and stuff. Didn't really notice any difference. Ph on Florida rain is also 7.5. I wouldn't do away with my peat, my plants love growing in it. I have never ph my water.

Cheers M_C, can I ask what soil & nutrients you used ? Did you ever adjust your PH ?

Thanks Macky, I have some PH down from growth technology, it's phosphoric acid. Am wondering if it's a good idea to use it or not, as oppose to something organic like lemon juice ? I've read lemon juice is kinder to the soil but however isn't as effective at keeping the PH down. Any thoughts ?

Soil? I've pretty much tried everything going but prefer B&Q Verve Multipurpose Compost. Nutes? I used to use VitaLink but they discontinued the range I was using & swapped to Plant Magic Old Timers.

The only time I PH adjust is when I grow in coco.

Just to paint a picture, I'm pretty sure if you pH in soil, this shit happens.... Could be a good WPOTM contender if the yellowing doesn't stop

I was pHing to 6.3 like Canna says ( actually they say as low as 5.8 for Terra)

Ah, so your pretty much organic & that works for you with your EC & PH base levels very similar to mine. I think ill get some Verve + old timers & see what happens, got to be worth a try. Thanks M_C

How hot is the verve, ok to transplant say a 2-3 week old seedling into ?
