Default How true to the originals are Auto versions?

I usually have only autos in my tent.
If I want to grow and try a classic strain, for example NL, I would search for an auto NL, simples.

But the more I think about it, the more I'm unsure about whether it's even close to representing what NL actually is.
If it's NL crossed with something else with a bit of ruderalis ancestry, then it's basically something new, right? Can I really say I've tried NL?

Similarly I heard good things about Gelato so I started to look for Auto Gelato. Is that basically a waste of time?

Edit: I know this can be argued for photo strains in general, esp amongst different breeders, but with Autos it must be more of a thing?

every single strain is a hybrid, even the big 3x haze, NL, skunk#1 they were made by crossing strains
    autos are just another version/hybrid

As Captain says, seeds are all a little different... & this is where good breeding comes into play! The less phenotypes you see in a strains F1 seeds, the more stable it is

With photoperiods, you can always clone a 'keeper' but with autos, there is no such luxury
