Hey all, Wonder if any of you guys could help me with this! My 600w HPS seems to have quit on me, The inner tube in the lamps is glowing a purpley plasma kinda look, not sure if this is the bulb or the ballast

Mate mine kept going on and off . If you take the bulb out an see if anything has blown in the bulb.

A small bit had blown in the bulb which I couldn't see when in place 😁

Maybe not rattling maybe a burnt out wire or connection?

Look for any black bits in it.

Failing that is your ballast dimmable ? Cause I think that's what done mine dimming a 600w bulb down to 400.

Hey dude, I did notice a couple of blacker bits either side of the inner glass tube! Got my mate on the case for a loan of a bulb and ballast!

Nice it may be that then have you any pics?.

If your ballast is new it shouldn't be that but never say never.

First thing I'd try a new bulb. 😁

Cause mine was doing something similar tbh it would work for five or then minutes then dim to that weird glow like it was still lit but not fully which led me to believe the bulb was good still an it was the ballast.

Buy it was the bulb i just presumed that a bulb wouldn't work full stop when blown like a typical house bulb..

I reckon it’s the bulb. How did you install the bulb. Also do you let them cool down before re energising them.
I had exactly the same issue. I got a new ballast but it was the bulb. When I installed the bulb into the fitting used my hands big no no.

Last time I saw something like that, my inner tube of the bulb had a crack in it
