    Talking 200 Proof Alcohol?

Did you guys know you can buy a gallon and 8oz of 200 Proof Alcohol off Google? Here in Florida, they use to sell 190 Proof, but today they only sell 158 Proof. But you can find it on Google for 80 bucks. Of course there is a 27 buck shipping fee for hazards shipment. But still that is cheaper than buying a still and making your own.

I can get a little confused with proof

In the UK we buy by percentage of alcohol (A typical bottle of vodka/whiskey is 37.5%)

How does proof work against percentage?
It's Not What You Know, It's What You Can Prove

Proof is double the percent (75proof = 37.5%).

Liquor was tested by explosion. If it went up with a bang it was proof you had some good drink.

200 proof must be 100% alcohol

Would isopropyl alcohol be any use? Normally in the US you get (I think?) 70% which you call rubbing alcohol, but you can buy it up to 99.9%

Sounds like what Hotshot talking about is ETHANOL and isopropyl alcohol is Propanol, so 2 carbons vs 3 carbons. No idea how they differ in terms of getting drunk, but Methanol, as we probably all know, can get people blind. So that one extra carbon in the chain does matter. Given the choice I'd go for that 200% proof stuff, if it is genuine. Distilling that ethanol to purify it so much takes many, many watts of energy. Not saying that it's not possible, just saying that the price of the product might have a bearing on the quality/purity of the product.

I did wonder about that Valentina but thought at that percentage it (surely!) isn't for consumption RSO/QWISO would be my guess?

It could be used as an industrial solvent, but seems a bit odd that when there probably already are solvents or cleaning agents out there that do the job well and are cheap, why go through the palaver to make a super pure ethanol? Is there a corn surplus, or something? Perhaps it was intended as a fuel additive for bio-ethanol engines? But using that for making RSO would be my first choice too.

190 Proof is 95% pure, and 5% water, the 200 Proof is 100% Alcohol with no water. Yes it is for making RSO, I believe Jingo use to do it with the 190 Proof, in one of his RSO post.
