Default Advice needed. Wiring Reflector to mains? Ballast needed for MH bulb?

I have attached a few pics below.

I would like to know if the reflector needs to be connected to the ballast before going into mains. Or is it possible to bypass that and go str8 into the wall mains. For example I have a wire lead and plug as you see in the picture. I tried attaching the live neutral and earth to the reflector and the other end to a plug. Then i plugged it into the wall but the MH bulb will not light. Now the bulb is a 600 watt mh. Which you will see in the pic.

    Questions,

    1. Will i be able to do this without a ballast
    2. If a ballast is needed which type should I get electric or magnetic
    3. How do i wire the earth wire to the reflector? The yellow and green earth wire. do i put it around the screw in the middle or tape it off as its not needed?
    4. If I do need ballast are the wires used for kettles needed as a plug and not the standard plug types

    thank you

You can't run a mh bulb without a ballest you need a ballest to start the bulb and run a steady current to it ... magnetic ballests are cheaper but digital are better as they run cooler and you can change the setting on them ie 250w 400w and 600w

Buy yourself a decent digital ballast spend about £100 on one and your away. No need to rewire anything. Just plug the kettle plug from your light into your ballast and plug the ballast into the socket on the wall. Simple 👍

I only have a budget of about 50/60 euros. So i dont think its possible to buy a digital one. Do you think a non plastic magnetic one would do the job for one crop?

I would look around the net and ebay as well, you should be able to find a Digital ballast. You just have to look and look some times to find the better deals.
