New to growing this strain plants look healthy but look really leggy is this normal?

Lights too high or inadequate is usually the cause of leggy plants
Got these off a friend there was already leggy there about 3.5ft am I wasting my time or should I just carry on

Nice you got any photos pal. 1st time growing this heard it could be difficult was going to scrap them at first but glad I didn't now.
