Default Testing the PH of your soil.

    Afternoon folks.

So I'm looking at taking a reading of the PH level of my soil because of a few brown patches on some top leaves.

I've read that if I take some soil from the pot and mix it vigorously with an equal amount of RO water. Then let it settle for 5 mins. Test the PH and that's the PH of your soil?

    Is that right?

Is that the same as a slurry test?

Iron get a soil testing kit from Amazon or fleabay mate. Worth the tenner or so that they cost.

Let's wait for an expert but I read you take a sample of soil and fill a glass jar to top.

Fill with deionised / RO to the top and leave for an hour. Longer the better for contact

Filter off the soil and measure the pH of the solution

You can do a quick & dirty test without spending £10, will only give rough guide but may help for your spot issue. Mix little soil up with ro, add vinegar, if you get a reaction your PH is between 7-8, mix another soil sample and add baking soda, reaction 5-6, no reaction about 7

Show us the affected leaves iron... i cant see why you would need to test ph of soil unless your nute mixes have been fed at a very low ph even then it happily buffers to what it has been set at manufacture

If you suspect ph might be off mate, just give a good flush of just plain water, should balance it out a bit right?
