    Default Hps vs cfl

Is there really that much difference in them say a 600watt hps or 2 300w cfl duel spectrum?

The average 300w CFL will output approx 4,000 lumen. 2 of them are around 8,000 lumen

The average 600w HPS will output approx 90,000 lumen

    ... you do the math!

If you have dimmable ballast I’d look into getting a 400Metal halide bulb for veg then switch to hps for flower but you can use dual spec from the start.if you just have a 600w ballast then just remember to put your light high in the tent to start with

Yeah I don't have a dimmable ballest mate. I am just using a 50w cfl atm. Seedlings have just popped out the soil 2 days ago. So I think I might switch on the 600watt hps soon then. I was just thinking about costs with the 18/6 cycle

2x 300w CFL have the same running cost as 1x 600w HPS

    A 300W CFL only has about 75Watts.

I've always used my trusty 600w from start to finish, there is no comparison between HPS & CFL, HPS wins hands down every time. Saying that though, using a CFL for seedlings is ok, maybe the first week above ground then make the switch.
