Quick question folks, when potting photo plants from seed why do you use a small pot to start with and re-pot once maybe twice to larger pots but with autos you only pot into the final pot?

I suppose it's because autos have a set date till flower where as photos you can veg as long as you want. I would imagine you'd want to cause autos as less stress as possible, so transplanting them into final pots are not to cause the plant any stress.
That's my thought on it, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to answer if I'm wrong😊

When the roots hit the inside edge of the pots they curl round they never grow back inward....So by potting up you create a bigger root mass...Your on the clock with autos, the stress of potting up can hinder their growth and ultimately the yield. You don't have the luxury of a recovery period like you do with photos...

Potting photos into a bigger pot will take longer for the plant to set down its roots. Progress will seem slow to start with, but honestly it's personal preference. Some people go straight to final pots where as I tend to use 2-3 pots before transplanting into their final pot.

Cheers B.L. and Master Kief, I guess I'll be getting 2 different size pots for my upcoming 1st grow. Any recommendations on pot sizes?

I generally go from seedling pot to half gallon to 1 gallon to 3 gallon. Then either finish in 3 or pot up to final. If you are growing in soil I think you will find a larger final pot size is easier to grow and finish in. At least this has been my experience.

it stops people over watering in a smaller pot also,

Plants like a wet dry cycle which is much easier to achieve in smaller pots. If you over water in a small pot you can dry it out easier. Water log a big pot with a small seedling and you run into problems.
