I had a bulb that when switched from 250 to 400 would make a tapping sound.

This would last a few mins then stop.

If the bulbs rattling when you shake it I'm sure it means something has gone in it.

I'd always air on the side of caution and get a new bulb.

now im not sure the sunmaster 400w bulb doesnt have a metal bracket on the inside like the 600w has a different bracket that is flush to the glass so theres no movement both brand new bulbs are like this might it just be a design flaw

My 250 & 400w Sunmaster bulbs only have the loop like your 400w. Give them a shake & they both have a rattle
