Only just seen this. Glad yr op went well. I gotta have a nasty one in January.
Disc in my neck has popped out and has been pushing on my spinal cord for god knows how long and deprived it of blood so it's gone squishy and permanently damaged (Myelomalacia).
So a neurosurgeon is going in through the front of my neck to push my windpipe out of the way, remove/replace the offending disc and fuse the bones with metal work (gonna be robo bitch!).
Now I had all my internal reproductive organs removed in 2016 due to cancer so am no stranger to surgery but this one is a lot scarier. Real risk of paralysis. So much so that they refuse to make the decision to operate for you, you have to choose yourself or run the risk of falling over or being shunted in a car bump and ending up paralysed anyway.
It's a shit state of affairs but it is what it is.
I was gonna reply that pre-meds are bloody great and that you can request diazepam from yr GP and take them up to and including the morning of surgery to take the edge of yr nerves.
Well done on getting through it
