I am going to leave one side open for removing the old air from the closet. So, which side is more effective to connect with the exhaust, 1 or 2?

Doesn't matter, whichever side is closest to the available ducting

Are you pulling/pushing through a carbon filter ? Assume pushing if you have one side open

With mine the air moves in the direction of 1-2... I'm not sure if it really matters?

@gardo - no, I don't use a carbon filter. the exhaust going directly into the chimney and no smell problems.

@MC - yes, probably not or maybe it's better to connect on the side which would be more hotter.

Agree with MC it won't matter. It's just a tube at the end of the day and will cool in either direction by the same flow of air

I haven't used HID lights before ... if the 250W cooltube connected directly to the exhaust would have the same temperatures like the 4x45W CFLs not connected with the exhaust, then I would be very happy. Will see after few hours.

Depends on your ducting and bulb, if you have a 600w 'anything' and pvc covered combi ducting, the end opposite the bulb fitting is best, doesn't melt the pvc in the process

I prefer the "cooler" air being pulled over the side the bulb screws into. Guess it's each to there own 👍🏻

I will bow to the HID users. From what you are saying the bulbs are hugely hotter at one end compared to the other.

Melted my first connection of combi ducting to 600w HPS, guess its down to the dissipated heat from the bulb holder, mind you there was only a 4" RVK on the other end, maybe different with more throughput
