    Default Talking Nutrients With Blue

I’ve seen a few Q and A threads popping up around the forum. Having a general interest in what’s on the market and how different products give different results I seem to have tried pretty much the majority and if I haven’t theres most likely a very good reason for it.

So do you have a question on nutrients or additives? Soil/organic, coco and hydro. Thinking of a new product, not sure how to use a product or what it’s npk ratio means, Issues with your current nutes?

Ask away. I’m sure between us all you’ll get an answer

    Bloody good idea Blue.

I am nearly done with my two Canna A&B 5 litre jobs. Have been looking at Ionic range. Your thoughts, and all THCtalkers too, on the Ionic range?

    Hi Viz

Ionic would be a good choice, there cheap to buy there range is simple and most importantly there a long standing tried and tested company.

The previous canna you have is to be used with all water types as you already know.. The ionic however tailor there nutes to suit both hard and soft water types. You may find switching to something more suited to your water gives a healthy plant.

Ionics cal mag pro is very good

Advanced nutrients have discontinued a product? Are they re realising it in 10 seperate bottles at £40 a piece?

All jokes aside I know they have served you well so hopefully a new one gives the same if not better results..Rather than OT try the Buddhas Tree Organicus as a first choice or the canna Bio Flores. I’m not a fan of OT, I used to be but in my opinion it ain’t what it used to be

    Dear Blue,

I'm playing with my organic soil mix. What do you think?

    Perlite %20
    Worm Castings % 10
    Bone %2
    Blood %2
    Epsom %1
    Soil %65

The soil is a compost/Top soil mix with a little perlite thats mixed local. It is fungal/bacterial active.

I plan on dosing with a molasses (and possibly kelp) tea weekly. I'm good with any other product suggestions other than fish as the smell makes me violent.

    Thanks!

Your mix and plans sound fine, but I’m not sure about the addition of Epsom in there. I’d sooner use this as a folier drench and use calicified seaweed as a replacement at the roots.

I’d also consider adding in a small amount of coco coir amongst those as it has great aeration properties. The root development is worth the small fee Coco costs.

Volcanic rockdust would be another good addition. Plenty of traces in there 60+ to give an idea.. Some are sceptical on this one but I’m a fan

I was planning on the Epsom just to get ahead of any possible deficiency as Id read it has little effect if unneeded but the seaweed would be easy to add to the weekly and I prefer that as an additive than trying to add Epsom topically later on.

Ive just started looking into rock dust as an additive, super cool. Any chance this could replace some of my perlite % ?

Same question on the coco. Also Ive read that coco has a great root microbiome. Will they play nice with whats living in my soil or will I need to monitor them?

O! How do you feel about clay pebble/ rock topping for soil?

Thank you very much for the information.

The rockdust I use has no drainage benefits as it seems to be exactly what it says on the packet, fine dust.

The coco could quite easily replace 10% of your perlite and have no negative effects on your soil life.

The clay/rock pebble topping isn't something I've done before so I can't really help you with that. I know some do it to help reduce rising humidity from the pots

Use 50/50 gypsum and oyster shell instead of Epsom, the coco is mainly for the microbiology for consumption of organic matter not only aeration for your aeration I would use rice hulls which will break down into organic matter at the same time releasing loads of silica and instead of perlite I would use a new product called growstones,
Rockdust is a must in my soil mix also as for your ratio I would go
    1:1:1
    Coco/peat
    Aeration
    GOOD QUALITY castings or compost

And sorry what’s the 65% soil your adding if your making a soil bro?
    Blessings
