What to believe Vitalink EC calibration fluid or Bluelab Truncheon

Been getting some what I suspect to be nute burn on seedlings at about 3 weeks from seed 0.5 ec and 6 ph.

Decided to check my newly cleaned 18 month old Bluelab truncheon with Vitalink calibration fluid.

It says the truncheon does not need and in fact can't be calibrated yet when placed in the calibration fluid it reads 2.5 touching on 2.6 in the fluid it should be reading 2.8, so what is out the fluid or the truncheon. Anyone use a calibration fluid they know to be stable.

I use essentials 2.8 solution and it always checks out with my essentials EC meter.

I do know that EC probes are many times more stable than pH probes so their calibration doesn't drift as much.

Many thanks Gardo, think I will give the essentials a go just for peace of mind. 0.1 out might not sound much but in hydro or for seedlings I think it can make a difference. I'm burning the shit out of everything in this new RDWC.

The blue lab truncheon, show the ec with red led lights right? If I remember it?s not spot on accurate but close enough. You need one with a screen so you can see the number for the best results.

Hanna, greenline, ec meter does the reading to 2 decimal places, and checks temps too. I?d go with that model if you?re looking for a good ec meter

You are not joking Trex lad, I fed low in coco but have halved it again and still frazzling them.

I was having problems with limp leaves and it was due to over feeding as they were not uptaking enough water to keep hydrated. It seems in hydro one point to much can make a difference between sad plants and happy plants, that's why I am concerned about the Bl truncheon. This RDWC malarkey is very low maintenance but not for the beginner. I am sure when I get it all dialed in it will be great.

Still can't believe how low I am feeding 0.5 ec to established cuttings a foot tall. In RDWC ec pens are just a rough guide your eyes are what you need to use to get things spot on. Things happen so quickly for better or worse.

One thing for sure I have plenty contenders for WPOTM

I have found some strains just don't like RDWC or maybe I should say every strain needs to be treated differently.

Thanks Macky, The Blue Lab has blue lights and goes up in increments of 2.0 but flashes between the two, so flashing between 0,4 and 0.6 gives you 0.5. This would be accurate enough as long as it was spot on and calibrated.

I don?t think those truncheons need calibrating? I think if you calibrate them you?re more lie,y to fuck them up if anything. I?ve read some where not to calibrate them....

I like 2 decimal places man, so much more of an accurate reading

Milwaukee have a great quakily e.c meter . Been using mine solidly for 3 yrs with no fail .

Its the sharp waterproof model . Goes two decimals . Very accurate and keeps calibration for a long time .

Of course you get what you pay for with sensitive instruments .
