looking forward to this mate. Custom lighting is always cool.

There is a big drop in temps from CFL to LED as you said. My tent dropped by 7c when i switched. Sitting at 21.5 now. I know its too cold, but everythings growing well
Yeah, been thinking bout that. Currently I have the fan on low and a radiator keeping the room the airs taken from at around 16 degrees. Temps are in mid 20's in the temt, tho the humidifier cools it a couple degrees so it'll jump up a bit in flowering.
I have a weaker extraction fan I could try if needed. It was too weak for the cfls but might be ok for the Leds.

I think there's enough factors I can control to get it dialled in so should hopefully be ok. And I have heaters but no air cons so I think cooler lights will be easier to adapt overall. Summer was a pain and that was before the tent was so tucked away.

    Morning Silk

To work out the power requirements we first take the footprint

    50cm x 60cm = 3.2 sq feet

    So we need 3.2 * 30 to 3.2 * 50 or 96 to 160w

I would go in the middle somewhere depending on your budget

We will run the 2 foot Qs at ~15w each so we will need 8,9 or 10 strips

If that seems expensive, since you need more strips with Q, we can design in F strips but these run at 35w per strip so would only need 4 or 5 strips. Trade off is the density is higher so could be issue with your height.

Let me have your thoughts then we can specify the driver

System voltage will be 220-230vdc ( be careful )

    System current 700mA

Giving system power of 155 watts

I've selected the hlg185hc700b driver for you

This will allow upto a couple of strips expansion room if you so desire.

Put that driver into findchips or Digikey for best price

Cool, that's available through digikey too so can order it alongside the 10 strips.

Will I need to invest in a little soldering kit? I've got wire strippers, nuts n bolts and hacksaw. Also have a glue gun and plenty of wood tools.

Oh... and are aluminum strips best or would putting em on a solid sheet of something painted or wrapped in Mylar be a plus. I've had a spliff so feeling innovative lol

Yeah you will need wire cutters, strippers and soldering iron for the potentiometer although you can use small crimps if you prefer

Need saw and drill for the aluminium

Entirely upto you. As long as each strip contacts fully against the aluminium, it will sink the heat

We need to spread the strips evenly across your foot print, thats the key criteria
