it's more important with long flowering sativas that just won't ripen up before 12 weeks mate
my honest advice 2u, try it mate, see do you like the results for yourself
then it's learning vs reading it online,
i only do it with certain strains that won't ripen come week 9, but i drop it 11hrs>10hrs>8hrs to finish them especially with long flowering haze/sativa
They seem good so far was just after that extra boost in production, dont think i have any worrys about them not finishing on time so ill give it a swerve i think

yield will slightly drops due to less light hours,
it's more important for plants that won't finish on time
if im on week 9, and all white pistols still, she needs reduced hours to finish by week 12
I add an extra hour of light 13/11 on the principle that plans grow due to photosynthesis from light not darkness..

especially not when mimicking nature,
i've got moonshine haze coming next, will definitely try it
i like the rest am hear to learn,
On photo period plants flowering starts at around 15 hours of dark, well that's not visible flowering but when the flowering hormones flood the plant...From that point you can't increase or decrease the the amount of hormones by increasing the dark period they are switched on. Its then down to the plants genetics, quality of the light spectrum and environment as to how well the plants preform and finish...

just read a botanist book by Robert Bergman since you peaked my interest mate,
his advice 'grow indica' lol
The first and most convenient way is to find a variety that naturally matures earlier.
Short-season (Indica) varieties will always mature earlier than late-season (Sativa) ones.
As far as long-term plans for early harvesting go, this is definitely the best approach.
am definitely gonna try it with my next sativa run, 13/11
since it won't be indica, there's no chance of stressing or hermies
Do you mean final 2 weeks till chop, or final 2 weeks still 12/12?
If you're 2 weeks till chop, and the trichomes are looking the way you like in terms of cloudiness or ambers, that one hour per day is not going to add up to much either way. Both methods have very justifiable reasons. The best way to know is to try.
I second this during bloom. Once she is in bloom full and proper I up the hours to 13/11. I have read that some can tolerate 13.5/10.5 without reverting to veg, but I have been playing it safe at 13/11. That extra hour has given my plant plant that extra oomph pushing out the pistils and trichomes.
I have "shortened the day" by way of reducing the daylight hours, dropping that incrementally to force the plant to ripen faster. I can't say I have done a side by side comparison, however, the plant responds to how fast the days shorten besides just the actual numbers of light and darkness, so again, the best way to know is to try.

Just for the sake of discussion, I'm going to throw in the Gas Lantern Technique, I've used it before & will continue to use it, match that with the Diminishing Light Schedule & we could have a right little debate on our hands.
