Default Pre-made PC grow box advice (with links)

    Hi all,

Long time since I’ve posted on here! Many years ago I had my first grow CAB documented on here which is now long gone though have all the bits N pieces

Anyway, I now want to go smaller for stealth reasons, MUST be stealthy!, but cannot be bothered acquiring all the parts, planning, building ETC - just want to plug in and pop’em

But yeah, I’ve found these two PC setups on EBay. Which of these two would be best for the process guys

    This one
    Ebay item 153322519495

    OR

    This one
    Ebay item 183612348088

I’m liking the second one but my only concern is that the air intake and outtake are low, the exhaust isn’t mounted high, thus sacrificing circulation for heat and air, would this still work well?

    Thanks all

You could do a lot better for less money DIY mate. The first one will cause you problems with the light intensity if you've got 50W coming from one point (assuming it does actually run at 50W which I wouldn't bet on) and '99% light proof' isn't exactly encouraging. Not likelyto hold negative pressure well either, though at least it has a fan controller. The second one looks like it'll give you about half an inch between pot height and the lamp the way it's put together, and that outtake fan doesn't look like it leaves any room for a filtering layer to me.

Gaz can speak to the issues with buying pre-built better than I can but don't assume that just because you haven't built it yourself it's all safe and high quality.

I'd recommend keep researching man, maybe check out some of the build threads on here from Mr Motion and Gaz etc and see what alternatives there are. I know you want to keep it quick and easy but if the unit doesn't work well there won't be anything easy about using it.

Mate dont fucking do it mate please I. Wasted hundreds of pounds to be faced with disappointment and sadness. Worst decision ever doing what you plan to
If you want a small stealth grow you should build it mate simple as. DO NOT BUY A PC CASE GROW ROOM FROM. EBAY. The one I built was lethal and had Gardo and last rebel not asked to see the wiring I would very likely be dead mate and Im serious. Ask anyone mate it wad a death trap

Ok just looked mate and fuck me your plants will get sick in there mate. The plants will get sick growing that close to blurple lights. You need a good quality 3500k led and you dont want to be pushing much more than 25 or 30.watts or they will fry.

Mr motion's PC case build is your best bet.

Please dont buy one mate its 200 quid down the pan trust me.

My case was one tug away from being live with 240v and NO EARTH in a metal box.

It aint the temps thats the issue mate its par at canopy height. LEDs traditionally need height in order to operate because the central par is so high so that it can spread the light. Most require a minimum of 18 inches from the canopy so you have to make something that spread the par across the foot print of the case. This reduces the central par and allows the plants to be close.

If you click the link in my signature you will see my box and I am running 47 watts through my LED strips and the canopy is cooking at an estimated 62000 lux by measurement with a phone app lux meter (not accurate but Gardo who designed my light says its the right ball park going from his calcs).

Have a chat with Gardo, hes your man for lighting up tiny spaces with LED or Last rebel who has successfully flowered in a case

Limiting factor will almost definitely be how much the plant can take in the space mate, especially if you can keep the driver outside modern diodes won't create all that much heat as long as your airflow is half decent.

A lot of us have gone with Samsung or Bridgelux mid power strips recently and are having good results. The key feature for me when choosing lights is evenly spreading the output across your space since you need the plant to really fill the case.

Remind me and I'll drop you some info about mine through pm tomorrow, I got the build thread removed because I made myself a bit too identifiable in it sadly, but happy to pass on some of the lessons I've learned along the way.

    Thanks for the tips!!

So... I’m now on the hunt for the most important part, the case itself. I don’t want a mini case for obvious reasons and a server case may be too big.
I want a case that’s gonna be easily enough to tidy up inside with minimal effort as I’m not the best with DIY haha. Is it just a case of drilling out the rivets that hold parts in place?
Is there an “ideal” case that people tend to use?

I’ll first source the case and deck it out before buying the light so will have plenty of time to ask you guys questions

I'd copy Gaz and make a fake cabinet. Or better still find one cheap and convert it. Every extra cm is a godsend when space becomes an issue.

If it's a pc case, there's a few successful diaries about for em... prob a few abandoned ones too, but you're def headed in the right direction with the LED strips.

Good luck brother, I'm sure with the guru's here helping out you can make it work.
