Default What is buffering my nutrient reservoir?

    Hi

Just wanted to understand what is causing the nutrient reservoir to rise in pH during the day?

It is a 25L, food grade, plastic gerry can, heated to 20C and aerated with a couple of air stones.

It is outside, with the screw lid resting on top.

I assume it is being caused by a reaction with the air?

    thanks

To start with is the water coming into contact with roots mate? If so it’s ions as the plant takes nutrients

No the reservoir is separate to the plants.

    I grow in coco.

I use the reservoir to supply a drip irrigation system.

i have had this before, i discovered that the addition of air being pumped into it made the ph rise a few points. Take the air stone out and you will probs find its just that.

Happened to me. In my case it was all the minerals in the water. Limestone. Chemical reactions caused the release of lime. Had to switch to r/o water.

My guess would be the airstones. Wouldn't take them out though You need that DO2 in your res.

I use RO water - tested to 12 ppm.

I guess it must be the ayirstone!

It rises to 6.9 in 24h from 6.0.

Now I know, I will check and adjust morning and night!

I mixed up 5l this afternoon.

I will pH it tomorrow morning to 6.0 and re-test in the evening.

I will do the same test the following day, but with airstone.

    Curious to see.
