150w hps - is this one suitable for growing?

yes mate, a friend of mine uses 150w hps, admitted, a higher wattage would be better but it will do for a small space if thats all ya can get.

however, they still pumpout a fair bit of heat, so good extraction or a cool tube/cooled fitting will be required

About twice the price it should be... you can pick up used industrial units really cheap. A US lamp supplier sells them NEW for $50 and you were quoted 60 POUNDS?
One of these lamps is good for two decent sized plants. 4-8oz depending on other factors.

U can pick up a 600 watt brand new for £80 , 150 watts is a bit poo m8.
