Am looking for in and outdoor cameras, motion sensor lights, and perhaps off site data recording.
Have had opportunists trying their luck at my folks' place over the long weekends. They are not tech savvy so the simpler the better.

May be worth looking at IP cameras, I believe a lot of them will also run motion detection software that will record to the cloud?

Have a look at the Yale wireless systems, they combine everything you have asked for and connection is at the push of a button, cloud based recording, recording on motion, easy phone connection
IP cameras would work but rather complicated to setup unless you buy a set (which aren't up to much) and don't usually include the alarm kit, just an output for an alarm

Look at hickvision for cameras and cam cloud for storage mate.
I know hickvision and camcloud work together well
The only thing that’s off-putting is the cloud fees versus the cost of an on-site DVR. Something like £5 a month per camera , so you’d blast a good wedge if you had 6 cameras etc.
I’d go with a DVR in an armoured box in a cupboard or in the loft etc and have it networked personally . Something like an alien hero etc and night devil cameras would see you ok
Lots of options really depends how much dough you’d like to burn I suppose

If you want to go IP cameras, use software called ISpy (on a dedicated PC) doesn't have to be upto date top of the range PC either, a celeron 800mhz runs it fine, works with 99% of retail cameras and can be made to work with the rest, much cheaper than cloud storage as a seperate thing
I have 5 IP POE cameras on my house, running on ISpy, cat 5E cable to each, no worries about seperate PSU for cameras

I have Hikvison HD DVR system 8 channel 1tb hard drive with 5 cameras 1 X PTZ, 1 X PT, 3 X static HD's....All hard wired with loads of features like, motion, cloud upload, people counting, remote view and playback via the app or PC ect...Good system, I installed it 5 years back and its never let me down, cost around £600 but the PTZ was expensive...I got mine all separate rather than by a kit that way you can customize to your own needs with the best quality stuff..So I got the DVR box, 1tb surveillance hard drive, cat 5E cable and BNC fittings, Power pack (12v DC Transformer) and cameras...The picture quality is spot on even the inferred at night..
