I have tried that with those plastic freezer packs, that works for as long as the pack is still cooler than ambient temps, and mine had to be changed out sometimes more than twice a day. It can work but dissipating the heat from the tent out of your accommodation would be a part of the whole solution.

Personally I would very seriously consider what MC said by dropping the plant number. Better to have 3 plants that do well than 9 that are average, cost you electricity and lose sleep.

Anyone think salt water in the bottles could help?

When salt is added to the ice bath (usually rock salt in ice cream making), it comes into contact with the thin layer of water on the surface of the melting ice. ... This salt water has a lower freezing point, so the temperature of the ice bath can get even colder, thus freezing the ice cream more quickly.

If you're not gonna use ice pack but frozen bottles of water, the salt may help. Just a point to note though, use plastic bottles, or even tubs. I have had many glass bottles burst on me because the ice froze weird and rather than expanding into the space in the bottle, it expanded against the glass and eventually the ice burst the glass bottles. Getting broken bits of glass from a fridge is no fun. Yes, it happened inside a fridge, not freezer.

With a lower freezing point, your freezer needs to be able to deliver that cold for the salted water to freeze. And you don't want the salt water interacting with your plants except to bring temps down.

One thing I have found is that the frozen salt water freezes the moisture in the air onto itself, so you might want a bucket or towel to hold the bottle and to keep condensation from getting everywhere.

Is there a chance that you could put them outdoors?
