Default PH in water does it really matter in soil medium?

Hi skilled people, I’m growing in 70%soil/compost with John innes and 30%coco and perlite to help with drainage, my tap water is 7.8. I’ve read around so much advice on the PH of the water I give them and many different opinions, some say you must lower it to around 6 and others say it’s fine because the soil/compost will stabilise the PH itself. Should I use PH down in my water or is it fine? The plants look quite healthy .

Follow the directions on the bottle of the nutes you are using...Fully organic nutes don't need Ph adjustment the microbes (micro herd) will buffer Ph for you...Many compost specific nutes these days are semi or fully synthetic chem nutes that require the Ph of your feed solution to be adjusted...

As you said people are split. At 7.8 you should be fine. Personally, I would ph water for one plant and check the difference myself. Not all water is equall, and can read 7.8 or a variety of reasons. Always good with established plants as you can pick two of similar size and growth to start.
My water has a high ph, but fluctuates dependant on use.

I am a strong believe in lowering the PH to 6.2 regardless. When I don't lower the PH to 6.2 i always have problems mid to late flower.

If you are going true organic nutes i think a lot has to do with how much soil you are using. I believe the soil will loose its buffering ability after a while. I have fixed mid flower PH issues a few times now by just potting up into a larger pot. When I feed the correct PH i can make it to the end without potting up.

For mineral nutes PH is a must imo.

I have never ph water, for soil in the last 11 years. Can't tell if anything is wrong or not, being I can't see what is actually happing, but have never notice any thing by eye that look wrong. My old water was always 7.2, and my new water is 5.8.

I would think that both 5.8 and 7.2 are significantly safer than 7.8

Taking notes CD..I was one of those old believers of you don't need to PH in soil, but from what I've seen from growers running into problems on the forum and your findings has made me do a complete 360..6.2 it is mate!

So much depends on the specifics of the soil, the nutes and the water. Saying don't PH in soil assumes that all 3 crucial components are going to balance each other. (For some they do) I think that it's better to just play it safe. At least that's what works for me.

If my water was 5.8 or 7.2 maybe i would have been okay in organic. But my tap is 8.2 and it never worked for me.

Absolutely, looking back at my grows late on it actually make sense CD..can't wait to get the ball rolling and put it into place. Going to make sure I get two PH pens (good quality as I can afford), just to average out any inconsistencies
