    Default Hi from England

Hi everybody from a (sort of) sunny England. I am 64 and retired. I started growing a couple of years ago with moderate success. Ironically, my best grow was my first with a 300w CFL light and a fan heater to keep some warmth around the plants. I decided to "go more pro" with a grow tent but it was only moderately successful and I thought to try a hydro set up with a bubbler, which I thought would mean I didn't have to water daily. Total failure - needed to change water weekly and plant roots started to rot despite best efforts with additives. Ok - back to compost and an investment in a 600w HPS set up. Also, to mitigate scope to mess up, I thought I'd try the Sea of Green technique, particularly as seeds are becoming more easily available here in England and also cheaper, so I can buy 10 or 15 at a go.

I think my errors involve over-watering and maybe too much warmth. Without baking the plants, can I have it too warm? I make sure the HPS is far enough from the plants to be comfortably warm on the back of my hand, so that should be ok. Also, I have a small fan in the grow tent but no extractor fan. Not sure if I need that.

Nice to bring you all up to date. I look forward to hearing from any posters and wish you all a nice day!

Yes, it can definitely be too warm and yes, you definitely need an extractor...firstly to take the heat out and also to draw fresh air in...absolute minimum requirements, fella.

    How big's the tent?

    And hi.

We also have a very strict rule about plants numbers, which helps keep our members safe . No talk of more than ten plants no showing/growing more than ten plants.

Other than that you should find the forum and it's members very helpful . We have a good community at the talk

Fresh air is a must and a 600hps might need a to be a little further away from ya babies than the back of hand test . It's quite a intense light to start babies off under.
You might be better switching back to the cfl just to get them started and then switch back to the hps after the third or fourth node

Hey welcome man UK would be the best place in the world if they only cracked on and made this stuff legal! You certainly want a carbon filter and extraction in place over here dude until we sort that out

Otherwise good luck with your next grow and ask these guys Aby questions, they have helped me no end!

As for the ten plant rule, the UK sentencing guidelines are on this site somewhere and basically if you have ten or more and get caught... The guidelines make it difficult for a judge to give you a slap on the wrist. Less than ten though and that option is available to them. This helped ease my paranoia abit and always better to be safe than sorry!

This is one time I forget the rule that its better to ask for forgiveness

I mentioned 10+ as it leaves a margin of error for germination. If I can get 5 or 6 that'll do.
