Default using vinegar to lower pH?

    hey,
will adding a little bit of vinegar to water to get the right pH be ok for the plant?
my guess is that there shouldn't be any problem, as i dont think there's anything in vinegar that could be bad for a plant, but correct me if i'm wrong.

Just googled a bit and alot of people say they have killed quite a few young plants trying to use vinegar instead of PH down...I'd err on the safe side and buy some PH down, after all if vinegar was every bit as fine to use then almost everyone would probably use it instead of buying PH down.

Isn't vineger an alkaline? You want an acid to lower PH, try lemon juice.

No it's an acid, a solution of 4-6% acetic acid.

I'm interested in this and lemon juice for lowering PH , got some chip shop vinegar that contain's acetic acid , but i know as i have mixed this into vinegar in the past that it's really weak , like a drop in a litre . Wondering about getting it wholesale or similar ?
Done a little experementing with cider vinegar but never used it on a grow , PH went down but never stayed stable for long , rising again .
Considering i'm soil i wondering can i use vinegar as it'll last as long as like i water every couple of day's kinda thing .

Unless your water is virtually caustic your compost should quite happily buffer it down. pH down of any description can adversely affect the microflora and ruin the compost as it is much harder for the compost to buffer up than to buffer down.
