    Default $15 carbon air filter

Just thought id share my find with anyone looking for a cheap carbon air filter. For those of you familiar with febreze air freshener they have a unit that plugs into the wall that has a little fan on it and has a carbon filter about 5''x5'' and about half inch thick. You can buy it at wal-mart for $15 for the whole unit, I forgot to look to see how much replacement filters were but I would guess they wouldnt be more than $8I just got mine today. Ill let yall know how good it works at cleaning out the plant smell. It says it will last 4months...doubt that, but at around $8 even if it lasted one month it would be worth it to me.

interesting yes please let us know if it works CF's are quite expensive and finding a cheaper alternative that really works would be great!

It wouldn't be hard to rig one up yourself
You can get carbon filters for fish etc that are foam blocks
wouldn't be hard to put it in a box with a fan on one end
and it would only cost you a few £££ or a few more $$$

A better alternative, more expensive but more effective would
be to get the activated carbon pellets/gravel type stuff for fish
also. I've seen a kilo box for under £15 online
It can be put in a box with a mesh or similar and extraction
    attached to one end also
Think thats been done on here by someone already acctually

If you put your mind to it, its easy and a fraction of the cost!

Yeah you can DIY carbon filters. I did one like Basil's out of a biscuit tin with a fan on top, activated carbon pellets or granules half fill then tin, hole on each side. Pair of tights, bit of string/tape etc. Bobs your uncles postmans grandfather.

For me though, it wasn't quite good enough so I just decided to go out and buy one in the end.

For your first setup a DIY one isn't a bad thing. But by the second grow you'll probably realise like I did that it just aint proper enough and only a genuine bought one is designed properly and does the job you want with no issues.

I probably will refill it with new carbon though when it wears off rather than buy a new one
