Talk about restoring your faith in humanity! One town in Montana has finally gotten it right when it comes to the proper relationship between medical marijuana and the cops.

The Billings, Montana Police Department says it has become a medical marijuana delivery service for pot growers in Montana, because shipping companies like FedEx and UPS refuse to handle the packages due to federal laws that could leave them open to criminal prosecution, reports KECI Missoula.

Billings Police Chief Rich St. John said FedEx and UPS call police when employees discover packages that appear to contain medical marijuana -- which has been legal in Montana since voters approved it in 2004.

FedEx won't take the risk of being prosecuted under federal drug laws for accepting any such shipments, even within Montana, according to spokeswoman Sally Davenport.

Chief St. John said when that happens, police pick up the package and "determine if it's legal," then notify the person who sent it, or deliver the package themselves.

They could be held liable if they don't return the pot to it's rightful owner, according to police.
