Default New beginner, some questions, growing stealth tent and organic growing

    Hey guys,

Im gonna start growing for the first time, and was wondering if you could help with a few questions I have. Ive been smoking for ages and watched and read a lot about growing but iv forgotten a lot of things.
I have access to a loft no1 goes to but I still need to be really discreet. So what Im looking for is, something that light wont show through, wont make noise and most importantly wont smell. The loft has a window but it is above a bunch of rooms where I don’t want ppl smelling or hearing it.
And I know it sounds lazy but something as automatic as possible. Just for the next few months till I get my own place again.

I want to grow about 500g. I want to grow it has organically as possible, I know it sounds silly, but I can really notice the difference between good mj and bad now.

So Heres a few things ive seen.

    These stealth grow tents.

    Like this:

So a few questions I have is:

    1. How many square metres will I need?
    2. How many pots should I have per square metre.

    3. Whats a dark room?

Here are the other ones if you recommend I get something else.

    4. Can someone confirm they are light proof? And sound, smell proof if not what can I use?
and what else would I need?

For the pots and growing. I heard about bioponics (sp) which is a organic or clean method and automatic. What are the cons?

I was thinking of using this with the tents and is this bioponics?

Sorry for all the questions, thanks.
im posting this on another forum too

I recommend you stay clear of that shop, do a search on here and you will see what a bunch of shits HG hydro are. You want to grow 500grams well good luck there what lamp you plan on using? Tents are ok, im not a big fan of them but they do the job some are better made than others the secret jardin are well made and one of the better makes. Darkroom is the name of the tent for example secret jardin dr (darkroom) 120 is a tent 120x120. Tents are not sound or odour proof and most leak a bit of light around the zips. Well grown MJ in hydro is as good IMO as organic infact you probably wouldnt know the difference you can easliy have bad grown organic MJ. You really need to take a look at the space you intend to grow in and think about how your gonna set up and how you plan on extraction/intake then worry about what setup to grow in.

right first of all like spartan said do not use that hydro site, use http://www.greenshorticulture.co.uk another site worth googling is homehydro both offer an excellent service.

500 grams is just shy of 18oz so you will be looking at a 120x120x200 tent to get near that target (are you sure you really need that amount of weed?) you will need a 600w - 1000w lighting system (more light = more yield). to stealth that and be on the safe side i would suggest a 6" carbon filter and 6" extraction with a 5" intake but you could manage with a 5" carbon filter, 5" extraction and 4" intake. if money is not an option then go with the 6" option (especially if you decide to go with a 1000w lighting system) if you chose a 600w system then get a diamond reflector, if you choose the 1000w system then get a cool tube. diamond reflectors are more reflective than a cool tube. another thing to remember is the 6" option is going to make more fan noise than the 5" option

i really dont suggest hydro for a first time grower, you are struggling to make a decision on what equipment to purchase so you are going to struggle getting to grips with hydro unless you really study hard. to make life easier go with soil and swap to hydro in the future when you have a bigger and better understanding.

    soil option...

you will get 9 plants (11L pots) in a 120x120x200 aiming for 18oz you could average about 2oz a plant (with the possibility of exceeding 2oz a plant) you would have to veg them for a decent amount of time before you flower them and they will be a bit cramped in the tent but it is manageable. or you could chose the sog/scrog method of growing more plants but smaller in size.

    hydro option...

i cant really say because im a soil grower but i do intend on giving hydro a go very soon and i would personally build my own bubblers/bubbleponics/aeroponics (dws) system rather than buy a hydro system off the shelf. heres a good youtube channel if you decide to build your own system

again if money aint an option and you feel more comfortable then buy a hydro system but then you have to decide which system will suit you because there are a few.

grow tents, the drs is a cheaper version of the dark room. a dark room is better quality than the drs version so if you have the money pick the dark room secret jardin over the dark room street version. or again you could build your own grow room to suit your won needs.

i suggest checking out the following dvds you can find them on the net free if you look in the right places and some of them are on you tube

you are asking for quite a lot of information so i think ive said enough to give you a general idea you really do need to research and consider what is best for you its a lot to ask for someone to give you a complete answer to all your questions

    good luck

Thanks guys for the replies. I havent checked back in awhile.
I will have a proper read 2moro but the replies look awesome.

I wasnt thinking of going hydro, but bioponic, which is just water in a tank and the plants take water when they want.

at the moment money does matter, after this yield im hoping to move out and grow in my basement. i want to make good quality weed, not this shit people are smoking and messin there heads up with.

Also, Don, how long would I need to veg them for?

This is what I meant by automatic watering system. i thot maybe thats what bioponics meant. They have a 15l pot, or should i stick with 11l?
    Thanks again

you should really start in small pots and repot into bigger pots as the plants grow, the plant will take what it needs from the soil so you shouldnt have to start feeding nutes until you go 12/12

15L pots will be fine but you will need to veg them longer than you would if you was using 11L pots. the idea is to have a good root mass in the final pot without it being root- bound. so that it has a good root structure to be able to take up nutes for the flowering stage.

the main thing to keep in mind is your plants will double maybe even treble in height (depending on strain) by the end of flowering. so its all about keeping them at a manageable height. you can veg as long as you want and i would also recommend low stress training and topping (not all strains take to topping) to help make the plants bushier with more bud sites which will increase the final yield.
