start counting the days when you see your first pistils which could be a week to 14 days and you can switch 12/12 anytime you like

Although U2NG offers very sound advice, it may be wise to see if you can find out any info from your seeds breeders. Some count flowering from the day you flip the lights, or some as U2NG says, count it when the pistils show.

just go by eye/instinct/use a scope.
Breeders and seedbanks like to say seeds finish very quickly.
In reality they usually take a week or so longer than the stated flower period. Scope/loupe/magnifying glass is your friend

Thats not necessarily true as pistals can show in veg as preflowers...

Start counting days of flower when the pistils start to crown on the tops of the plant, forming the budsites...

Forcing plants into flower usually takes a forghtnight after the flip, and plants that are sexually mature, clones or veggers showing preflowers will only take a week or so to start to flower.

size of plant and root mass is what will determine yeild along with care taken. but putting plants into flower before sexually mature can and will affect potency. i alway wait till a plant is at least 2 months old before flowering. and count days from photoperiod change. i have heard of strains (mostly sativa) that are not potent mature until after 4 to 6 months.

i have grown several strains with a veg period and straight 12/12 from seed to compare results, yield is most definately reduced but i have found no difference in potency.
