I decided to create a thread on building your very own grow room from scratch. Below are brief details and images that will basically show you how I went about creating my own home built grow room and I will try to cover everything from start to finish. I will also be adding pics of 'Before and After' so you will see the very basic shell of a shed and the final outcome of it's transformation from nothing into what I think is a perfect little growing area.
So without further a do here is my shed/growing area.
Shed on 1st day:
This is the image I took the very first day before any work commenced.
Starting work:
I ran all cables ready to be connected later on in this small project. Above you will see that the cables run central to the roof space between joists and around the edge and down the walls for the plug sockets. The plug sockets will be placed half way up the wall so any leaks will not start fires or electricute me.
The next stage was to insulate the ceiling and walls with foil insulation which I purchased from eBay at a very reasonable price. 60sqm to be precise. ( I ran out so ordered another 20sqm at the end of the project) I used my staple gun to staple the foil to the ceiling and then used baton to pin the foil to the walls. Here are a few pics of how I did it.
Before I reached the corner I wanted to drill a hole big enough for an 8" (200mm) ducting which will then run to my RVK fan and carbon filter inside the next shed which will help keep heat out of this shed. (More on this later though)
At first I stitch drilled a 6" (150mm) hole for extraction but decided on using 8" (200mm) extraction instead.
The hole:
6" (150mm) hole
However this was not going to be enough so knocked the entire block out of the wall on this shed and the next shed which has a cavity so 3 blocks in total where removed.
Once this was complete I moved on to covering the entire walls with foil insulation using baton as a support, I placed the baton every 18" (460mm) to give extra support to the foil and boards I would later use.
Bottom insulation:
This seemed to take forever but was absolutely essential to help keep this area stealth from unwanted IR signatures being read by you know who
Insulation boards:
Now was the messy part, I had to cut polystyrene boarding which I also purchased from eBay in sheets measuring 8ft (2400mm) x 4ft (1200mm) x 1" (25mm) thickness. The ceiling I cut each section 4 times giving me 100mm or 4" thickness and placed 1 on top the other. This alone took me a few days and created so much mess. Here are some pics of what I mean.
More foil insulation:
Once I completed the job with the polystyrene I then covered it with another layer of foil insulation to give added protection. I only have 2 images as I forgot to take pics of this being done. I know it's not good enough anyway I covered walls and ceiling again.
