Default As simple as it gets! Mini cab, multi strain 12/12 from seed under CFL's.

Thanks for looking in here and welcome. Fairly new to this fine forum, long time grower (12+years). This is my new 'mini cab' grow. Its about as simple a grow box as you can get and while in some ways it is a retro step for me, the challenges of growing in restricted space is something I really enjoy. Heres the basics:-

250watts of CFL's in wooden cab measuring just 18" wide x 14 "deep x 24" tall . (Still its bigger than a PC case so I should have no problems! ) 2700's mostly but including 50watts of 6500 'blues' for balance. (Just my preference).

Multi strains, Nirvana seeds: Master Kush, Snow White and Swiss Cheese coming up, more to follow.

12/12 lighting constantly in the cab. Soon as seeds crack they go into soil and straight under the 12/12 schedule. I plan to fit 5 plants in this box for a perpetual turnover of small plants/buds.

Feeding Bio Bizz organics - Bio Grow and Bloom. + Canna PK booster for late flowering.

1 Exhaust fan fitted at top of cab and an intake (will) be fitted in right side bottom (to follow, currently 'passive' intake - works well enough though).

What else? ....em, just soil, a cheap PH test kit for the water I use. Couple of timers and I think that's about it.

OK, so here's a few shots of the cab construction for now. I have just a single Master Kush in the box now about 12 days old with Snow White and Swiss Cheese seeds stuck in the damn post for a week now (bloody snow!). I hope to see them in the morning as its all clear now

I hope that this modest and simple grow inspires anybody just starting out on this fine hobby. I'm a modest smoker of the herb these days and I dont expect much more than 10 to 14g max from these small 12/12 grown buds BUT I plan to harvest something every 2/3 weeks once its fully up to speed. That's more than enough to keep me happy

Cheers. I'll be right back with a bit more background info to this grow and I'm always happy to answer questions.

Cheers. I've learned a lot about how to keep these things small and what I'll be looking for basically is a bud on a stick, minimal side branching and minimal training just a little LST to control stretch. No topping as I want the one bud bang under the light source. Below is an example of what I look for, last plant harvested before re locating into this very slightly smaller but more square little cab, same principle applied. Another Master Kush at 67 days from seed cracking/ 12/12 from seed. I encourage root growth out of the bottom of the soil and water directly to the rootball so they suck up what they want/need.

Cheers for looking and leaving a comment :-)

No big plants/ buds here folks, she was just 12" tall, and if you stick around I'll get 5 or 6 packed in that little box for regular harvests.

That's a really nice looking growbox cv, can't wait to see it all filled up.
I'm waiting on a seed delivery myself so I feel for you there

Nice one - look forward to seeing how things go. Are you using feminised seeds? What soil do you prefer?

Hi Ariadne, cheers for looking in. Yes, feminised seeds all the way now, I switched back from clones as I just wanted to run the 1 box on constant 12/12 for simplicity. I stick with cheap but reliable Nirvana strains as I have used them for many years and never had any issues with them at all. I have 2 Snow Whites germinating now and soon as they crack they go straight into soil and under 12/12. As for soil, its just Bonsai soil from local garden centre. For restricted root space and again used previously. My pots contain just over 1ltr of soil. The pic shows how the roots fill the pots and form a coil in the airspace between the bottom of the pot and the container which I bottom water. I'm just waiting on some Swiss Cheese seeds and will probably follow that with more Master Kush later.

Here is 'Crystal' a Master Kush baby just over 2 weeks old, 12/12 from seed and hopefully will see first pistils around the 22 day marker as usual.

V12, yes cheers mate, the box is very solid and should not warp like the one I just retired! Still she kept me smoking for over 2 years so didn't do bad at all :-) This is a 'Ducal' cabinet, quite an expensive bit of solid pine but it came from the local Hospice Shop for cheap. (You might recall it used to be my clone/veg box).

Other pics shows typical root mass from previous plants grown this method and bottom watered. This is from a 12/12 grown MK at 28days from showing first pistil so around 7 weeks from germination.

'Crystal' is already throwing roots out of the bottom of her pot.

    Update:

'Crystal' the Master Kush has been repotted into a bigger pot as I was not happy with the soil she was in as it was reused from a previous grow. I was unable to get to the local garden centre when she cracked so had to use what I had. She's now much happier, just means I have to settle for the slightly bigger pot in there. No pre flowers yet but I can tell she's very close. She's about 3 weeks from germination.

The first Snow White is out of the soil too now, and 2 Swiss Cheese seeds have just begun to break the surface. I had another Snow White seed which so far has failed to germinate, very unusual. Its a BIG seed so after 5 days soaking I have given it a gentle helping hand, inside is nice and white (through my glass) so fingers crossed. At least I have tried. I think 5 will be max in there As the first one gets within a couple of weeks of finishing I will start the next batch. I know from experience of this method just how little room they take up if kept short and left to grow a single cola.

All plants are under 12/12 of course.

The whistle is my rather ironic 'lucky charm', an 1885 issue Metropolitan Police whistle that belonged to a family ancestor. He joined in 1865 and was the second family member to join the Met police! It hangs in my new grow cab as it did before in the last one :-)
