Yeh been but didn't try and score anything though, things have changed over there since they joined the EU so if you go make sure your wallet is fat as prices have gone through the roof for day to day bits....and the taxi drivers are right nutters i thought London was bad till i went to cyprus lol

Cyprus is like my second home. It is very expensive since they changed to the Euro. They set the prices on most things based on the Cypriot Pound/Euro rate back in 2008 so haven't taken the economy into account. This makes everything real expensive, especially when the pound is so weak. Alot of places still show prices in cypriot pounds as well (even though they are not accepted).

They don't like weed at all there. Greece is notoriously hard on it as is (southern) Cyprus.
I remember speaking to one of the bar workers there and got told 3 weeks in prison if they catch you smoking a single J!

The EU hasn't changed the culture much at all (like the UK), just the prices. They still look out for their own and still have a very close family based culture.

What part are you going to?

Yes spilt with Gf recently and I will be meeting an old female friend who lives in Cyprus.
I ain't going to sit around and mope, I've done that before and its not good for my spirit.

I have to be proactive and move on.

EasyRyding I'll be going to a village not far from Larnaca, please tell me anything you think will be useful, any and all info is cool right now.

I didn't mean to panic anyone. I meant real expensive compared to what it used to be. In Paphos though, the Coral Bay area does seem alot more expensive than Kato.

I tend to stay more to the Western area when I'm there so can't say too much about Larnaca.

I'm not sure what your into really. It's a great place to relax and if you're staying in a village, they tend to be pretty small and very quiet. By our place we have 1 kiosk 2 tavernas and a sandwich shop with about 60 houses.

If you like scuba diving there are loads of sea caves and a wrecks, notably the Zonobia.

There's regular day trips to Egypt.

When are you going? There are some salt flats by the military base in Akrotiri, if you catch it at the right time there are flamingo's as far as you can see.

There is so much history on the island you wouldn't believe. Kurion by Episkopi is an ongoing excavation and it is huge. Well worth a look if you like that stuff like me.

Don't be fooled into going to see Aphrodities rock. It's just a rock in the sea.

If you want to see the Kykkos monistary be prepared for a very long windy trip up the mountains. I don't get motion sick usually but that did make me feel a bit funny.

Some places there are a magnet for drunk british people and there can be trouble.

It's bloody hot. We've broken quite a few thermometers on the hot days.

Thats what I can think of off the top of my head.
    Feel like a holiday rep

Only just spotted this thread, Cyprus my favourite place in the whole world, n I been to a few places incl Africa. I too am am going in August for 2 wk (although looking at extending that to 4). This will be my 6th time I think, I've learned the lingo too, well in the process of. If you are careful and spend wisely 2k will be enough. Are you self catering? Orphanides (Ορφανιδεσ) supermarket just off Tomb of The Kings Road is cheapest.

There was a noticeable increase in cost of living since going to Euro over there. I remember first time I ever went in 2004, there was 3 of had a 3 course meal and drank large vodkas all night and the bill came to CYP45 = GBP40. Now the same night in the same bar costs around EU90.

Whereabouts in Pahos you staying? A car is a must, I always pick one up from airport and drop it back off on way back, Bit expensive though for a few weeks so I suggest maybe hiring one for 3 days. Check out Aphrodites Rock, Kurion, Aphrodites Baths (stunning!)

PM me if you need any more info mate

Aphrodites Baths - that water is feckin freezing lol.

Hi Dude, car hire is not as expensive as UK (although most other things are dearer), they also drive on the left so very easy. The border with the 'north' is fully open to tourists and I would deffo go there, much more laid back and 'unspoilt' than the south. Be careful with your weed though, both parts have very strict drug laws.

Border Exit: Vehicles are not permitted to enter the Northern part of Cyprus (the area under Turkish occupation), or any other country, as this will invalidate the insurance.
