Can I put a 250 hp light into a 400w ballast without causing an electrical fault or blowing myself up

I'm growing in a small space and think the 400w is too strong, can't find the 250 ballast, think i'll put the 125w on as I don;t want to kill the plants.Glad I asked before changing the bulb.

and i never knew you got a 250w ballast i always thought you got a 400w ballast for a 250w lamp

im thinking of this useing 400w in my 600w ballast is this gonna set a fire?

Ballast is putting out 400w of power, the bulb is only built to take 250w then you get too much power going through, it wasn't built to handle this

Always use the same wattage lamp as the ballast and never run lamps that arn't ment for the ballast as this will only cause a fire which will probably end up with you getting busted when the fire brigade find your plants.
