Great post and thread mate, helps me out a lot.
Having about 4/5 soil grows under my belt I have finally bit the bullet and bought myself an 18l Wilma 4 pot complete with all the basic essentials. This thread has answered a lot of my questions about ec/pH but I'm sure I'll have plenty more.

Ph rises...add water...ph gets low...add nutrients.. really basic

I was drunk when typing this yesterday...haha. but basically if your ppm and ph gets lowered that means you can add more nutrients. If the ppm and ph rises you need to add more water as your plants nutrient intake has reached its limit at the moment. I personally try to add until I see the ph go higher, then I'll add water to lower the ph to my desired ratio.
