smoking while your depresed i find helps alot but it does depend on wot you smoke. you need to smoke a high uplifting smoke high in thc.but if you are bipolar you will have highs aswell. if you do go on a high smoking a plant high in thc could make you panic. you need to smoke a plant with a strong stone one that totaly relaxes you. beats having valium. any way thats wot i do but not many people no wot bipolar disorder is.

    Tiger got to hunt,
    Bird got to fly;
Man got to sit and wonder, "Why, why, why?"
    Tiger got to sleep,
    Bird got to land;
Man got to tell himself he understand.

    Default Bipolar Disorder

In contrast to people who experience normal mood fluctuations are people who have Bopolar Disorder. People with bipolar disorder experience extreme and abnormal moods that stick around for prolonged periods, cause severe psychological distress, and interfere with normal functioning.
Bipolar Disorder (also known as Manic-Depression, or sometimes Bipolar Affective Disorder), is a category of serious mood disorder that causes people to swing between extreme, severe and typically sustained mood states which deeply affect their energy levels, attitudes, behavior and general ability to function. Bipolar mood swings can damage relationships, impair job or school performance, and even result in suicide. Family and friends as well as affected people often become frustrated and upset over the severity of bipolar mood swings.

Works for me too, I´ve been using marijuana as an emotion stabiliser for years. Don´t be tempted to use a lot for this, a little is enough, more is too much.

Very true. causes depletion of neurotransmitters in your brain like dopamine leaving you more depressed than before

I have bipolar disorder and so does my girl friend. it works wonders for me too. better than any pill i have ever taken. nowadays i dont event take pills anymore. Herb is the only medicine i need
When I look back and think,
When i ponder and ask "why?",
I see my ancestors spend with careless abandon,
    Assuming eternal supply.

Modern man, evolutionary betrayer. Modern man, ecosystem destroyer. Modern man, destroy yourself in shame. Modern man, pathetic example of earth's organic heritage. Just a sample of carbon-based wastage. Just a fucking tragic epic of you and I!

I have a condition very similar to bipolar and have also found cannabis to be very therapeutic on a day to day basis. I don't take mood stabilisers.

The best thing for me personally is it slows my thoughts down to a processable speed, as I tend to overthink and wind myself up in knots.

Not for everyone, and many say indicas are better - higer CBD - but it helps me a lot.

I know people who are dying of cancer....and I agree with you! Bi-polar is one nasty condition, and the unfortunate thing about it is the highs can sometimes feel quite good but the peoples lives and those around them are in chaos, and the person believes nothing is wrong. Too much weed, (sorry but here I would be thinking occasional light use), can really fuck with a lot of people with bi-polar.

That said as I read on a thread here about long term effects - know yourself, but that may take many years! Be careful with the green AND the prescribed drugs too. For all of you that suffer with this condition I wish you the ability to control it - by whatever method.

i have Seasonal Affective Disorder, in the winter my boddy begins to hibernate and i find smoking cannabis can cause me to have problems but when the summer comes i seem fine. at the moment im on Propranolol 3 X 10mg per day, Citalopram 1 x 20mg per day and diazapram (valium) as needed of 2mg dose.
somtimes i find that weed can cause an onset of panic attacks and leads to depression but if i find a good strain like orange bud or a good indica i find my body and mind is fine

Damn. Ya'll opened a can of worms with this one. Some people say that green is bad for people with bipolar.....BUllshit! I have smoked for 9 years but i took a 2 year hiatus while serving in the army. While in the army I had a lot of traumatic things happen to me and i was diagnosed with a plethora of psychological problems. I also became an alcoholic.
They put me on seroquel, zoloft, and ambien. It made me worse. I got extremely paranoid to the point where i would hide underneath tables at work and shake back and forth. When they said they were going to give me a medical discharge i took a months worth of seroquela nd washed it down with a fifth of jack daniels and woke up the next morning and ran 5 miles with my unit.
then i got out and got off the meds and started smoking again, no drinking and no meds. It made me feel a lot better. But coming home to this economy, i had no joba nd had to move back in with my parents who gave me the ultimatum of staying on meds or going on the street.....so i quit smoking again and this time they put me on prozac, ambien, and abillify. I got so bad that my parents kicked me out anyway. so i decided to stay off the smoke and get religious and keep trying meds. they changed my meds again and i was going through counseling but it didnt help so my grandmother kicked me out of her house and no one in the family would let me live with them.
So I was homeless - sleeping in parking lots....until someone let me pitch a tent in their yard.....then a preacher got me a job working for his friend and they put me on health insurance....so i tried the meds yet AGAIN....agfain no smoking.
this time they tried some other meds.....AND THEY WORKED....until i started feeling like someone was stabbing me in the gut all the time. So i had to get off those meds - and ended up in the mental hospital where i was fired for leaving work early.
So I lost my insurance and found a community mental health place with samples and 3 dollar scripts. This time they put me on several different antidepreessants, klonopins, and depakote. it made me sick to my stomach every waking moment.....so they put me back on a high dose of seroquel AND abillify. the seroquel makes you gain weight no matter what and the abillify makes you hungry....so i end up gaining something like 120lbs over a six month period. I was feeling better until i realized how fat i had gotten and got really depressed.
I quit the meds and started smoking again and all was well.
Then i couldnt find anymore jobs to be able to get smoke...BUT the dept of Veterans Affairs finally approved my disability rating and i got a pension and healthcare....so i tried meds yet again. i went through some that made me pass out, some made me gain even more weight, one made me stop breathing which was really scary. And I ended up in the nuthouse again.
So I quit the meds and went back to smoking.
I havent been to the nuthouse since...the only time i get suicidal and crazy is if im out of smoke for a few days. ive lost about 50lbs and it makes me feel good.
i developed chronic stomach problems from all the meds and liquor...but when i smoke it makes my stomach better too.
Sorry, I know its a long post but i thought it might be good to have some first hand knowledge on here. i cant find much about cannabis and bipolar online.

i was diagnosed with cyclothymia a few years back, which is a mild form of bipolar and tryed loads of different drugs, proscribed by the doctors.. (even anti seizure drugs wtf?)

"Cyclothymia is a serious mood and mental disorder that causes both hypomanic and depressive episodes. It is defined medically within the bipolar spectrum "

anyway the drugs were pritty useless and i felt like a guinie pig trying loads of different drugs.

one made my moods alot worse(mostly angry/depressed)
another worked wonders and stopped all the symptoms but my missis didnt like me while i was on them, as i was basicly useless and didnt move/talk much.

    cannabis - solved my problem.

as a bipolar sufferer i was informed by a thc gp that indicas are the only strain for depression and anxiety, and also indicas help with the shit we get in our mind, sativas wil make you paranioed which inturn angers the bipolar, i was advised to use blueberry a popent indica with great benifits to depressants and bipoar, and blueberry is also used to help kids with bipolar, autisum add adhd etc, and saved lives from it,
i havent personaly tryed it im stil reading up on it and talking to gps about it, but a friend of mine form the states bakes it into food and oil for his bipolar kids and where as the 2 kids never play always fight and are so bad its upsetting seeing them fustrated and agressive without knowing why and how somuch so that a 4yr old boy pulls his hair out and bites and hits himself out of pure fustration and confusion, it hurts,

but when he is eating some blues in his food, it was the first time i have seen my friends sit down and drink a drink without moving, and is the first time i have had a quiet visit, i thaught they was at grandparents, turns out they was PLAYING in the bedroom happy, and when they saw me i got a hug and a conversation where i wasnt trying to calm him down to express himself,

and sicne then hes been on it everyday for nearly a year, he can go to nursery now without being told he has to come home for destroying things or biting teachers, his learning has picked up, and ok he has the odd tantum but who doesnt, but it doesnt go out of control and he doesnt sit there for hours sobbing and harming, becuase of thc indicas his lad has acutaly bonded with hsi parents , sounds harsh to say they didnt feel as close to him, but i understand after growing up and seeing in my boy what i was like, i understand where he comes from, and how it feels, and i hope they do legalise it,

cause the pills i am on from the docs, i sware if they say cannabis leads to memory loss then what the fuck do my meds do? and why aint they illigal?

i can never remember getting up at 7am with the kids i cant remeber takign them to school, mid day i seem to level out, its upsetting though it wasnt at first but when i couldnt remeber my baby girl saying her first words first thing in the morning, it was gutting, and all from gp meds, ive had so much trouble with these pills but if i dont take them its dangerous and my mind is unpredictable, its sickening knowing that when i use canabis daily and frequently, i can control my mind my bipolar with it without my medication, and acutaly have a life i remeber, and they wont let it be??

how is it fair its corrupt!

each and every strain has a different level of chemicals 400odd i think around, and each one is pecific for different things, myabe ya girlfirend tryed the ones that wasnt for her, speak to a depo in america and they wil listen to you rhoad island is good one,

its liek with my anti depressants i havd to try 6 to get the right one, and 1 of them made me suicidal badly , now i foudn an ok one (stil not as god as green)

but thats why there is thousands of strains every oen is different, its about finding the light level for you and matching the different charactoristics to match your need, blueberry is good for bipolar, but it might be toomuch for you or not enough or maybe ya need a cross blue with kush or somthing , its hard we are not pharmecutical people so we cant really say what we need, we can only try and test til we find one,

but blues is the high one for bipolar, and it works, i also find that paradise seeds seem to be really good on indicas jackywhite controls me so well im happy all day long and its ace, ya gota find the right one for you,

run from the cure - youtube it if ya aint seen it i hate this goverment , sorry for the long one my ramble on a bit , hope ya find one for you,
i make a skype accoutn and use the free 15min phonecalls for america distro gps i talk alot to rhd islnd there amazing and kind nothing liek a uk call lol

Beleser, have a look at something called DSMv, online its the book with diagnostic criteria for bipolar, depression and other, that drs use.if you meet a certain amount of criteria, (I.e.6 out of 8) then you take it to the Dr and demand to see a mental health consultant for a.proper diagnosis.there's an American one , not sure if it has a British version.
