depends on your hydro method m8

personaly i dont use one, i just mix nutes to manufacturers reccomended dosage + 1ml per litre adjust ph accordingly and top up my res with it.

im using a simple hydro system pots standing in stationary nutrien solution to 25mm deep.

worst case scenario is the ec drops ie the nute solution gets slightly weaker, imho not a major problem

I agree with sic, i've seen friend's trying it without and you'd be amazed at how fast you end up with nute burn and when you get to that stage and start panicking and lowering it and raising it to compensate your plant's are going to get battered lol.

Yea a meter stops you wasting nutes and will put you're mind at rest. and you will find the reading changes over time but with a meter its easy to correct with more water/nutes.

get a hanna ppm ph combo pen or u will have probs

Start at 1/4 strength and work your way up. underfed is better than overfed.

ah i never got one, only first grow so thought id try without it an c how i got on, at d start i did go bit wrong but its bout 6 weeks later an my lil baby seems to be flyin, so i wouldnt say its a must hav but it would be handy so not ta make d mistakes i did, but then again ya learn from ur mistakes :P

jus ta show ya an ec meter isnt essential but would make things that bit easier

if your a newb you will ruin your crop by not being able to check and adjust ec levels.
its the price of a half oz for a good meter. you'll lose more than that in yield by not having one.
