Why is it that hydroponics requires different pH level to soil? How would the medium effect the acidity at which different compunds would dissolve?

Plants grown in soil have a symbiotic relationship with fungi, bacteria and other fawner in the soil so need a more neutral PH and plants grown in water(hydroponics) prefer a slightly more acidic root environment but they will still grow in a nutrient solution of upto 6.8PH to 7.0PH but won't grow as well and can/will lock-out nutrients,so you need a more acidic PH of 5.5 to 6.0PH to keep the nutrients from locking out.

Same with soil, you can grow in a PH as acidic as 5.0PH but again can lock-out nutrients and they won't grow as well as in a soil with a 6.5PH.
