I know This may sound stupid but I need 2 ask. Was talking to a guy in my work that said he had the same problem as I do. He said he made a thing out of 2 big trays he put holes in the top tray for drainage and filled it up with soil and put the plants in the 5l pots on top of the soil , the 2nd tray was placed under to catch any run off. Has anyone ever heard/tryed this and would/did it work?? He said that he got good results out if it any input is appriciated

Except that once they've rooted on you will not be able to move/rotate the plants at all and if one finished early and needs chopping then you may get some root damage to the plants next to it as the roots will be intertwined "

Would a plant pot drip tray not do the same thing?

I use a holiday watering mat under my airpots.
It catches and holds any run off from the pots (it can hold about 8 pints I think) and I can add water to it to increase the humidity in my cab if I need to.

I was using wrong size pots, I'm getting 11l pots tomorow. I was using 5l pots and the roots were bustiing out the bottom of the pots, this is the same thing mate went through so that's why he built this contraption, He said he put the extra soil down so the roots had somewere to go and weren't hanging out the pots. If that makes sense lol

There's nothing really wrong with placing pots onto a soil bed like that.

Except that once they've rooted on you will not be able to move/rotate the plants at all and if one finished early and needs chopping then you may get some root damage to the plants next to it as the roots will be intertwined
