12/12 from seed? 18/6 veg? What to do!?

Hello folks,

Well I fooked up my first 2 seeds and now have 1 auto seed left. Grub (The Friendly Doorman :-) kindly offered me some Lemon Stinky, which I'm gonna start growing as soon as it arrives. Thanks Grub!! Very much appreciated!

Need to have my grow completely finished by end of August, as I am going travelling early September. So was thinking of going 12/12 from seed, mainly because I would love to be able to enjoy some quality smoke before the summer ends

So I'm just thinking of my options....
1) Go 12/12 from seed
2) Veg for a week or two under 18/6 (till plant has 4-5 nodes), then switch to 12/12
3) Start my auto seed now under 18/6, add in the Lemon Stinky when it arrives and then go with either option 1) or 2) above. Auto might not yield so well though with less than 18 hours of light per day
4) Veg the Lemon Stinky normally for 4-5 weeks until it shows sex, then flower for remaining period. This won't leave me much (if any) time to enjoy the fine smoke before I go travelling.
5) Any other options?

I'm thinking far too much. Need to get high! No weed! Need to start growing weed!

There's still 18 weeks until the end of August so plenty of choice, it just depends how soon you want to harvest.

Hey Grover,
I dunno what light your using but my Auto is under a 400w HPS and it's just starting week 10 so you might wanna get that started if your leaving at the end of August - 10 weeks plus the time to germ, the the time to dry and cure...18 weeks should be just enough to get a bit of that smoked.
If your going to do the regs as well as the Auto then your gonna have a clash when it comes to the light schedules. How long you going away for, could you not hold off the regs till you come back?

Hey Mr Bloom, its a 125W-250W Ballast with MH & HPS Bulbs. I'll be away for about 3 weeks. I could hold off the regs till I get back, but in that case I'd want to order some more autos seeds so I could grow 2 at a time. 2 x 11L pots fit perfectly into my landlady's wardrobe, bless her

Do that then mate..grow a couple of Autos to give you some smokes for while your away, then get stuck in to the regs when you get back?
I'm in the middle of regs and Autos and tbh with one groom and light it's a royal pain in the ass.

Cheers for the advice Mr B! Well I've decided I can hold out for smoke for an extra few weeks so I'm gonna go with the reg Lemon Stinky first as they are due to arrive in the next week or so - thanks Grub!

I may not have time to veg it properly for the full 4-5 weeks, so my question for you good THCT folks is whether it makes much of a difference to veg for a couple of weeks (i.e. not a full veg) before going 12/12, as opposed to going 12/12 straight from the start? I am reading up some diaries at the moment for ideas, but would appreciate your feedback as always.

It will effect final yield, 12/12 from seed compared to maybe 2-3 weeks veg will be some difference i would say definitely

Does shortening the vegging period 1) not stress the plant and 2) cause the plant to flower quicker?

The reason I ask is because I read this in Jorge Cevantes' Horticulture Growers Bible...

"Always wait to induce flowering until after pre-flowers appear. Inducing flowering with 12 hours of darkness and 12 of light before pre-flowers develop will stress the plant. This stress will cause odd growth, and plants might grow into hermaphrodites. Inducing flowering before pre-flowers form will not speed flowering. Flowering will occur about the same time as if you had waited for pre-flowers to show!"

I dont doubt what Jorge cevantes says is untrue, Out of the 6 x 12/12 from seed I had 1 go hermaphrodite, another had 2 main colas, and the hermaphrodite had 3 main colas jammed together, Now I like the odd growth, and I also love 12/12 from seed, it could be 5 weeks B4 you even see a white pistol if you wait 2-3 weeks in veg.If you got the time then veg, I 12/12 purely becouse I want small, smaller, and smallest, Its just perfect for me.What ever you do good luck,GBK

Sorry I should have been more specific...when I wrote "shortening the vegging period", I don't mean 12/12 from seed. I mean vegging for a few (e.g. 2-3) weeks under 18/6, but not waiting for pre-flowers to show before inducing flowering by switching to 12/12 light cycle.

@TC-UP, Yes I have seen great results here with many growers going 12/12 from seed (just found your diary last night, very nice). I think 12/12 is a perfect option for those who want perpetual grows/harvests and/or for those with limited growing space.

@GBK, Yes the odd growth seems quite common with 12/12 from seed, but thats ok since that odd growth mostly consists of fat bud colas

I'll try veg them for a few weeks anyway so. As for the germing, I think I'll just put them direct into soil this time

i would give them a little soak first to sofen the shell up a bit, or you could push it and ask Grub to mentor you. cheers buddie. oh the wifes talking now DAM.

Just decide when you want to harvest them and work back over and you'll be able to pick an exact point when to flip the light to 12/12. Add a couple of weeks to the flowering period to allow them to show sex and start to grow flowers

Cheers Donzo, the seeds will be put into a glass of distilled water so for a few hours until they sink. Hope all is good with you!

Got bored this morning so popped my last pineapple express auto seed into a cup of water. She'll go straight into soil later today or when she sinks. Hopefully can get the ball rollling with her anyway!
