    Default cfl VS hid

    Hi guys,

I would like to know the difference in growth that i would find between a 250w cfl and 250w hid? would the roots and leafs/stems grow at any different rate?

    your help would be appreciated!

yes the hid would make your plant grow much better and faster as it has many more lumens for the plant to take in..

i've only went from a 200w cfl to a 250w duel spec hid and the growth on the side branchs are a lot better than it was with the cfl.

plus the temp only went up by 2c.

Depends, I would choose 250w worth of 23w cfls over one 250w HID any day.. A 250w HID will out perform one 250w cfl bulb but it wont out perform 11 23w cfl's strategically placed around a couple plants.

I tried the 250w multiple CFL bulbs with OK results but now use a 250w HPS & the results are far superior - I'd never go back!

end of the day if you have 250 one watt cfls they all add up to 250w and a 250w hps will outweigh everything to do with the cfl..Same wattage but much more lumen output..

I thought lumens was the most important thing, not Watts?

if you have 1 light given out 1000 lumens, getting another light wont give you 2000 lumens it just puts 1000 lumens into 2 diffrent places.

It is. (Or at least for the purposes of this discussion, at any rate. Really, it's about PAR and PPFD, but lumens are a reasonable comparison for most lamp types.)

It will give twice the lumens, and it will also give twice the brightness if both lamps are used to illuminate the same area.

If you have one lamp producing, say, 1,000 lumens and you use it to illuminate a 1 mē area you'll end up with an illuminance (brightness) of 1,000 lux.

If you have two lamps and you use them both to illuminate the same 1 mē area you'll end up with an illuminance of 2,000 lux.

Double the lumens = Double the illuminance (assuming the area is kept constant).

Wrong, you can spread the light out with 11 bulbs much better than you can with one... CFL's can rock if you use them right. I prefer my 600w HPS/MH though. I've grown some very dank buds with cfl's, 4oz off one plant with 150ish watts of 23w cfl's, no I had 1 42w in the mix but still... The buds were damn near as solid as my 600w HID buds. I suppose I could dig up pics, but it's really not unbelievable if you've ever used cfl's correctly. The hard part to believe is that plant was only in 1/2 gallon of dirt, fed MG Bloom Booster from start to finish and watered with 8.6 tap water lmao.

agree on the cfl's well lots of them mind you! but hps is a dam fine light and i would use that just to get rid of the pure bother of doing all them fittings!!But i find cfl weed is just that little bit more tasty better smell as long as you use a good few!!
