One of my ballasts I got given from another grower, so god knows how old it was when I aquired it... Been powering a 600 for over 5 years now lol...

Another one only lasted 2 weeks after the dog pissed on it...

Just depends on make and luck of the draw I guess

Many, many years, normally. They don't 'wear out' as such.

They tend to either work properly or not at all — they don't 'fade' like the lamps.

I would suggest using metal halide during the vegetative period, and HPS when flowering.

Metal halide will normally produce shorter, stockier plants with tighter nodes, whereas HPS will promote bud/flower production.

    Bump
Hmmm I've had my best harvest with 4 year old lights but other factors may be at play and I'm wondering whether to buy more so advice would be appreciated.

Does anyone still change their lamps after so long?
