I'm afraid that is incorrect ole bean as amber trichs and the amount to which they proliferate are dependent on genetics with some strains having none at all.

Most commonly with hybrids you'll have cloudy trichs interspersed with amber.

I always get a couchlock effect with any indica dom strain so long as there are lots of cloudys at the time of harvest. I know for a fact that they will continue to mature/ripen after harvesting and drying and well in to curing.

There are thousands of strains, I'd imagine at least a few won't turn amber simply by genetics (whether you want to argue they're not great, is here nor there) but I've never had any problems with trichs turning amber so I have never personally run into such a strain, but I've only grown 6 or 7 strains with really solid genetics.

60x loupe turned up today - I can't believe what a difference it makes I can see the trichomes so much clearer now.

Turns out about 10% of the trichomes are amber, 10% clear and the rest cloudy. However, most of the amber ones are smaller than the bigger ones so could these just be failed attempts at growing a trichome or is this what I should expect to see?

Not long til flushing time I think!

You'll notice the smaller ones tend to turn amber first, it's fairly typical. When looking for a ripe plant you don't just want to compare the ratio of clear to cloudy to amber. You also want to try and harvest when the trichomes are at the peak of formation with bulging mushroom heads. (they contain the most thc). So look for both color, AND size. Nice fat amber/cloudy trics = high thc and cbn/cbd which is my favorite stone.
