    Default sativex update

hi people just thought id post our struggle to get sativex on prescription, some of you may remember my previous posts on the subject.because of the way the system has been set up even if you can get your gp to agree that sativex could treat your condition,he cannot prescribe it.what he does is refer you to the pain clinic, well im not sure if there all alike, but willing to bet they are,if its nhs pain clinic they are massively busy,if your really lucky you only have to wait 6 months for an appointment!when you do finally get to see a pain specialist consultant all they care about imo is getting you out the door with whatever poisons and crap they are pushing this month.they may do pointless tests(at least thats what has happened to my partner atleast 6 dif tests with never a single result to us or our gp)they may give injections called "nerve blocks" even though the consultant told my partner that"he knows these injections probably wont work for her,but ive got to be seen to try the cheapest methods of treatment first"they didnt work(big surprise!!!!)we have been honest and told them that we use cannabis to treat my partners pain, give her a chance at some sleep, improves appetite 100%but we can only afford to do this a few days aweek,so would he prescribe sativex for her condition?answer yes, but(bet you didnt see that coming!!!)the nhs does not budget for the cost of sativex as it is around 70quid for a 1 month supply!so we went home.done some homework on the matter and found that you can apply for a "special dispensation" for any prescription with the back up from the pain clinic so that has been done now, waiting again!in the mean time my partner just had another serious operation.as she has been on nerve blockers, opiates and many other pain killers, nothing works when she realy needs it.i have to sit and listen when she cries herself to sleep,or fight to make her eat only to have her chuck it all back up because of the side effects of the drugs!cannabis may not be "a cure" but it makes more difference than all the prescription drugs put together.so im not going to give up until they get her on sativex,if i have to apeal or whatever il do it.im one stubborn fucker when i get going as my wifes last employer found out after being a git to her, because hes rich he thought he would get away with it,no mate you should have seen his face when he lost the case and was ordered to pay compo! honestly thought he was gona explode!so i will keep badgering till she gets the medicine she so badly needs.wish my little wardrobe could produce more and quicker!anyway if anyone else has any luck getting sativex in the uk please post it up here!i cant type any more today but will update as news comes in,thanks for reading my dribble

In an almost identical situation to you. Not the sativex but with the seriously ill partner. I feel your pain brother, still on the pain clinic waiting list after 11months.

You can make your own tincture (sativex) very simply with either alcohol or vegetable glycerine. I would suggest using the heat method as this will be the quickest way to do it.

You can order glycerine from Amazon and various other places.

Grind the weed and place it in a jar, cover the bud with glycerine and give it a good shake, take the lid off and sit the jar in a bain marie (water bath) of hot water and allow this to heat through for at least 8 hrs. Cool, strain and you should be good to go with your own tincture. This is a very simple explanation but there is plenty of info on the net.

i found out only through the citizens advice that if you go to your gp and threaten them with a complaint to the gmc suddenly we got a nhs appointment but at a private pain clinic!but as i said in my thread they fucking useless, cant or wont give you what you need.i think the nhs is brilliant, but they can only do so much, pain is a bastard,my struggle may be in vain but it dont mean i stop struggling!if my partner can do it and still smile occasionaly, ive got to too.dont take to heart anything they say that upsets you,its the pain talking not them.sometimes just walking away can help, never go to bed brooding over it as it dont help.forget about sex unless she overdoses on purpose(didnt tell me till after)that just hurts more.dont try to hard to do things for her as that makes her feel more useless, wait till your asked.but make it clear your there to help if needed, but remind them they have to remember to ask for help when they need it as were not phsycic!these are a few things i have learnt.good luck with all.god bless ganja!!!!!!!!

Why do you want sativex? There have already been problems associated with its use.

Grow your own weed, make your own non-toxic meds.

The oil is wonderful stuff and from what I can tell it should work on your partner's skin cancer. My partner has Rheumatoid Arthritis and has been using the oil since early November and she's made an astonishing recovery, and that's only on a small daily dose.

All the best fella, do let us know how you get on.

My old man used to make it and dip the end of a cocktail stick into the oil then smear a line across the inside of a Rizla before he rolled a zoot. Swears he's never been so stoned since he stopped making oil. Im jealous, I've never tried it
