A court has heard four young children lived in squalor while their father grew cannabis plants in their Edinburgh home.
On Wednesday at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, the children's 48-year-old mother pleaded guilty to neglect while their 35-year-old father admitted cultivating the drug in the Niddrie area of the city.
Police only became aware of the problem after complaints were raised about the anti-social behaviour of one of the sons.

After visiting the property, police contacted social work who in turn took all four children into care.
The children - aged between seven and ten years old - were found sleeping on the floor covered by dirty bed sheets in a filthy and darkened house.
Police later found a dozen cannabis plants the father was growing for his own use. The plants were in optimum conditions for growth, and had been watered at regular intervals.
The mother and father - who cannot be named for legal reasons - have admitted neglect and drug cultivation respectively.
Sheriff Michael O'Grady deferred sentence on the pair until next month and they were granted bail until then.
The children remain in care.
