watts v temperature
after a search i found the Thread: Airflow / Temperature / Wattage table (and calculation).
but, being a newbie, i didnt get much of what was being said
not what i was looking for anyway, so a little advice please
i'm growing 3 plants in 6ft high x 4ft square tent, 2 white widow, 1 CBD something
the CBD has two heads now 4 1/2ft high so light is racked at top poss height, rest are 3 1/2ft- ish high
its on 12/12 starting at 8 am
buds came out 8 days ago, lots of nice, white heads and all looks healthy
but, i really dont know what is more important
if i put light at 60W, with extractor going, and tent shut, the temperature quickly hits 30 degree, if i leave it too long, while I'm at work, that can go to 34 by time i get back
so, i open up whole front of tent to cool it off till 8pm
i know that is bad, but they all continue to look healthy - how much does a period of excess temp hurt the THC / CBD??
if i put light at 40W, temperature stays around 25degree with tent shut all day,
is it more important to have the 60W light at this stage of growth
and thus have to leave tent open all day
or is 40W fine
and i can leave tent zipped up all day??

Lets start with what light or lights are you using?
Then move on to what heat and odour extraction method are you using? Make of inline fan, size of fan and carbon filter.
As you have more than ten posts could you upload an image of your plants. It may be that you need to bend or train the tall plant so as to allow more equal light to the canopy.

hi viz
ty for the reply
and
sorry about the long delay
been away with no net

The Sunmaster Hobby 600w Ballast
, powering lamps at their optimum for maximum grow light output (PAR), extending lamp life, features: - 250w,400w,600w & 660w +Power Mode -
Red Scorpion Inline Duct Fan
Red Scorpion Carbon Filter
Red Scorpion Extraction Kit 315mm (12″) X 600mm – 1940m3/hr
basically
is it better to have 60W when budding, and leave tent open
or 40W, and leave tent closed
to get the right temp
25-27 i believe???
thanks
i shall posts some pics later for advice on bending and training, please
bear with me
am newbie in more than post count

Its important to be accurate when asking for help.
Huge amount of help here especially from the veterans but posting crap in will get crap out.
Your not running 40w or 60w. Assume you mean 400w or 600w? Are you changing the bulbs when switching the ballast?
"Red Scorpion Extraction Kit 315mm (12″) X 600mm – 1940m3/hr" - this will suck up a 4ft square tent and spit it out.
What's the proper measurements of the tent? Or perhaps your using a fan controller.
Even so the filter wouldn't fit in a 4ft area.

aloha celery. Temp control is affected by several factors working together.
is point of air extraction up near your bulb? to pull the heat off it?
if CF is outside tent, this is easy enough to arrange.
also, intake should be pretty close to extraction.
whats your rH? this affects temp too.
*Key Advice: stop starting new thread for every question about the same plants.
Start a diary & keep everything together. & easier for members to keep track of you.
best of luck

That fan is a beast. I run a 600w and extract with one 125mm fan that I think moves about 400m3.
Are you extracting the air outside or away from the room the tent is in?

thank you jack
yes, as i said, i'm a newbie and, till i know better, i will be posting a lot of crap
and need to know when i am doing so, i didnt really know how to/what info to include in reply to the viz's question tbh
please keep on doing so all, i sure appreciate it all
yes, i meant 400W/600W
tent is 2m high, 1.2 x 1.2 - the fact you say that my extractor will only do 4ft square tent aint looking good
no i'm not using a fan controller, you see, i bought the kit in a whole package kaboudle as i had no idea what i needed, just took what they said i needed as... what i needed
i have no idea about switching the ballast, just looked up what it may mean, 'Replace the ballast when your fluorescent light flickers or makes an annoying hum'.
thanks wasat, yes, didnt realise that, i shall keep all posts about these on here from now on
yes, point of extraction is right by the bulb
rh? you lost me there
thanks greengiant
yes, extraction going straight out of permanently propped open window
any help, as ever, gratefully received

Your extractor is rated to swap all the air in your tent 11 times a minute. Less a percentage for friction / ducting. That's a lot of extraction. Do you have a passive intake? I.e a big opening in your tent somewhere to let new air get sucked in?

Right I wondered what had happened to you.
You have more than enough venting power with your fan. Some would argue over kill. I would strongly urge you to invest in a cooltube for your lamp. Because you have so much power in your fan running a cool tube will not negatively impact one bit on odour control. A cool tube will help big time with temp management.
Next point. Where are you pulling your fresh air in from?
And, where are you venting your hot air too?
Ideally you want your vented air to be exhausted into another space or outside. Your fresh air should not be coming from the same space that the exhaust vents the hot air into.
If you are using like me a passive intake, you do not need to have huge openings. I simply use the one 8 inch sock at the bottom and stuck a bit of ducting in, pointed the ducting away from the door with a bit of a kink and some black stocking over the opening to manage the light and bugs wanting to get to the light.
A variable fan speed controller might be something to think about budget depending. There are many options. I use a Evolution Controller for my set up, but there are plenty options.
