Cheap controllers are light dimmers. Nothing more

The issue is they will cut/switch mains ac at peak voltage (340v in the UK yes 340)

The harmonics / spikes are hurrendous

Put two of these on the same ring or circuit and you are just asking for a kaboom.

Decent digital controllers cut /switch when the ac voltage equals zero. Ecotechnics does this well when I've probed the output

Right, so it sounds like a controller is a not an option then...So..exchange the fan? Or build some kind of audio dampening box around it? Its unusable currently. And tent temps are close to 30

Exchange if you can for single speed, then get decent controller, box if you cant

Does it constantly hum even if you manually lift it up as opposed to hangers, its not vibration or anything with position is it, apologies if we already did this one but mashed

It;s constant. And i would'nt call it a hum. It literally sounds like a low setting vacuum cleaner. Then the ducting makes even more noise when attached.

I have a TT 2 speed that had a 'controller' both settings went through it, was only getting about 200v at high speed so I removed the controller, I use a cheap 7.99 variable speed on it and its been fine, it the intake on my small tent.

No experience of Rhino, 3 RVKs here

    Hi AND,

So I ordered the SMSCom controller from fleabay and it arrived this morning but it's still causing the fan to make just as much of a buzzing noise as the cheapo dimmer did, would you peg it down to a dodgy fan or is it just something I'm going to have to live with?

It's the single speed Rhino with the SMSCom MK2 single fan controller

    TIA

    Beans

*edit* sorry I've just seen that you've no experience with the rhino fans

Try disconnecting your ducting...if its still making noise, the fan has an imbalance. If not, its turbulence in your ducting

My ducting made a big difference. Built a soundproof box and then realised the air leaving was where most of the noise came from
