Hi.
I have been looking all over the forum, getting inspiration from all sections before I start my own, first ever grow.
Im just going to start by having a little play here, a little dabble there and learning from my mistakes with bag seed and a very cheap set up, rather than chuck a load of big money at it and mess it all up. if I get anything out of this that is potentially smokable it will be a huge bonus and even if the plant turns out to be male I will be happy if I have kept them alive, healthy and growing well.
First of all it is going to be a bit stealthy and will be in a set up using a bed-side-table similar in design to the one below, that I have lying around the house

Now I am a total and utter virgin grower so rather than spend loads of cash on expensive lights etc I am thinking of going with a CFL set up. Now I have looked around Ebay and the like and have found really cheap bulb holders such as the one below
http://i.ebayimg.com/02/!BOw5We!!2k~$(KGrHgoH-CQEjlLl1C88BJwUmovlpg~~_1.JPG
Would this type of thing be suitable for holding a CFL bulb, if I got a few of them packed together?
what about the item below on Ebay? Would this be useful if I made a home made reflector to go with it?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CABLE-HANGER-for-125w-200w-250w-CFL-Grow-Lamps-Lights_W0QQitemZ290299530222QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ HomeGarden_Garden_PlantsSeedsBulbs_JN?hash=item439 7334bee&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A15|66%3A2|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1 |293%3A1|294%3A50
Then I understand that I need to make a vent system. I read that PC fans are good, hooked up to old phone chargers. I need one blowing air in, one blowing air out? that right or wrong?
Thanks for reading and although many of the questions asked are so dumb it is laughable any answers would be a huge help.
Thanks in advance
cfl sit in an e40 connector, search e40 cfl on e bay, pic em up cheap 45 quid for 250 watt cfl with reflector and yo yo hangers. you are also correct on the ventilation aswell

Sorry mate you need a proper holder for the CFLs not to expencive though. Have a look at Green's someone will put up a link for you although it's already on the forum a few times if you look about. And try growing auto flower strains not bag seed as they take up a lot less room and have been developed to give a quick harvest. Seeds for these are available from the THCTALK shop.

Ah I see, school boy error there i think.
I just had a search and found this on ebay

This looks fairly simple to wire and connect and is cheap as chips. I'm not to fussed about buying a reflector as I have a mate who works in metal fabrication and he says he can make me one for nowt to save me a bit of cash.
The fan thing looks easy enough all I would have to do is put the fan in one way and then put one in the opposite way to get them blowing and sucking. That right?
Excluding the price of the CFL bulbs I want to get the whole set up built for £10. penny pinching I know but this is just a first time suck it and see grow from myself so the cheaper the better.
with the bulbs can I just get away with a blue one or do I need to get a red one for the flowering as well?
red will do both, the way i see it is you may aswell maximise flowering and red spectrum is best for flower so get red instead of blue, thats my opinion anway.
the fans, thats correct 1 suck, 1 blows, that cabinet is tight so ventilation is really important to keep tems down!

Thanks again mate. Im was worried about the temp so will get that sorted as soon as the build starts.
The cabinet is similar in design to the picture I put up, but looking at other stealth grows on here, I think and hope it will be good enough.
I will look into getting a red bulb too.
no bother mate, and im sure it will be great for you, ive seen setups like yours with auto flower strains, all turned out good, so good luck to you
One thing m8 is that socket gonna fit a cfl conection it looks a bit small? mine is massive:( and im sure it wont fit that connector. see link below.
I may be wrong though you cant always tell from pictures :)
Am i allowed to link? i dont want to get banned maybee ill pm you instead :)

Would this be good to get me started?
As I said before, my mate is a sheet metal fabricator, so is happy to make me a reflector for nowt with off cuts from jobs he is on, so that will save me a few quid.
I dont want to mess about with wiring as I will always be worried about fires, short circuits etc etc so want a ready built jobber.
Will 125 be enough in a small area and only one of 2 plants or do I need to go for 250?
I am only looking for a play about and see how it goes from there.
250 will yield more 2 under a 250 will do just fine

Right. Sorry to bump the thread by a whole page but I have set the wheels in motion on this and hope to be having a little dabble very soon.
Spoke to my bud man and he has got me a hand full of seeds from various people. Haven't a clue what they are, how big they are or what strain they are, all i know is they are weed and thats it!!
Getting a red spectrum 250w CFL in the next few days and already have a cupboard to get it in.
One thing i have had a really good read about and still aint got a clue about is all this flowering malarkey I read about. I am right in thinking the points below.
1. If a packet seed is "auto flowering" all i need to do is plant the seed and sit back and watch the bad boy grow and flower.
2. If its not auto flowering I need to make it flower and to do this I need to change the light cycle?
So if I was doing a time line with bag seed, that i aint got a clue what type it is and the grow time i should do for example.
Week 1 - crack seeds plant etc etc
Week 2 - 24 hr light?
Week 3 - 24hrs light
and so on until I change the light cycle to 12/12 for flowering is that right.
so it might look something like
Weeks 1 -6 - light on 24hrs
weeks 7-9 - light on 12/12
Is that silly time line or about right.
how long would you veg for and then flower for? how would you artificially induce flowering.
Sorry to be stupid. i have read the forum for ages and read alot of the the guides, but unless someone says it how i understand (timeline wise) I aint got a clue.
Thanks in advance

Yes for veg growth have the lights on 18/6 there's no need for 24 hour light (although some people do most don't) and when the plants are a third to half their final height then switch to 12/12 to simulate the autumn sun light and flowering time. This sould carry on until flowers are ready for harvest and could be between 8 to 16 weeks depending on strain.

if you are growing bag seed in a small space you would be better off going 12/12 from the start to try and keep the plants short and give you a quicker harvest

I was thinking that. i had a look at your 12/12 (lemon Stinky I think?) grow diary and thought it might be a good place to start.
Is that like plug in and play growing?
One the seed is growing I only have to stop it from dying basically.

Right then guys I am going to write up a check list of everything I need for my grow so if I miss anything off, or anything you think is a good thing to have then please give me a shout (Im a UK grower so should be able to get things from DIY chains and garden centers over here)
ok then here goes.
1. A growing space - in this case a cupboard around half the height of a wardrobe.
2. A Light - in this case a 250watt RED cfl with home made reflector
3. Seeds - Bagseed for a plug in and play before paying to get some nice seeds
4. Pots - small for seeds, larger for transfer for full grow
5. Soil - John Innes brand from Focus DIY
6. Perlite - Big 5l bag from Wilkinsons
7. Fans - Couple of PC fans one blowing in, one blowing out.
8. Ghetto carbon filter for smell, although not too much of a problem as only me in the house.
Anything I have missed out or that you recomend eg. Plant spray?
Post up a brand name or store link if you can with any product suggestion you think will help me.
Thanks
