i use 100wR leds on my walls as sidelights for bottom bud/fruit etc quite successfully.is this what you mean.

one lamp per plant will only light one side of plant so doesnt help much on its own,i use several in addition to main top lamps.

if you do such a thing youll need dark glasses or switch off power when entering tent else youll go blind.

303572 This is from a thread on Platinum growlights. It is being used as a sidelight on a 1.3 meter plant. No way could I make the overhead light reach the bottom of the plant.

When I used Magnum and Hydrogrow they would be positioned at 30 degrees and offset to the side for better coverage, requiring I rotate the plants every other watering for even growth. Later the plants were put in a circle to catch the bypass light with a full surround around the five plant circle, still rotated the plants but not as often.

When sidelights were used alone with no top lights at all the plant would send long branches out to the sides almost perfectly horizontal. When budding it was nearly impossible to keep the buds from pointing down, they would grow in a tight half circle as they dipped, and at a slower rate than an upright bud.

Light angled from several sides circling the plant from above or a surround of sidelights takes more area and more effort but has benefits.
Side by sides using the same wattage found that moving at least 1/3 and up to 1/2 of the light from above into an efficient surround gave a 15% increase in total weight of bud. Mostly in the lower and inner buds, but the colas increased as well.
This was with a tall strain of sativa, a shorter plant may have less increase, but the results are such that even freshly rooted clones are given side lighting now.

Vertical or rotary growing systems is one of the latest innovations. It is one of the most technologically advanced growing methods around although not that many people are taking advantage of everything that it has to offer. And it will depend on the type of your LED. If it is a full-spectrum light, the recommended distance is around 3 inches. If you have a red or blue light, distance should be around 12-24 inches.Keeping the proper distance between your full spectrum LED grow lights and your plants is important to robust photosynthesis and growth. Your LED grow light provides the wavelengths of light your plants need for growth and flowering.

Not just sideways, a 45 degree angle on each side and another straight overhead added to the T5's hanging close up on the sides 308918 What was learned from the first generation LED budroom is going into this third generation hybrid budroom.
CMH is at one end to provide a strong green signal and the T5 surround has 12% UVB bulbs mixed in, strong enough (at 10 cm) to cause sunburn on exposed skin within three hours. Far Red at dusk/dawn keeps the plant aware of day/night and neutralize light leaks.
308920 The major drawback of CMH compared to other growlights is it's inability to be aimed any direction needed. Straight overhead is a minor portion of the sky.
