Thought i would start a a diary, i have just finished me 1st grow on a normal photo period strain (super iced grapefruit) and it went pretty well better then i thought it would tbh. so while thats all curing i have setup my 1st auto grow to fill in some spare time before i decide what my next photo period strain will be.

the strains i am growing are 1 x VIP Afghani Autoflowering Feminised Seed
1 x VIP Northern Delights Auto Autoflowering Feminised Seed
1 x Advanced Auto NYCD Autoflowering Feminised Seed (Cup Winner) all from Herbies seeds


Current set up will be pretty much same as me last grow except am using airpots.

My current set up is :

DS90 Grow Tent
3 x 10L Air pots with just COCO Plus
5inch extractor fan with a 5inch carbon filter
4inch S&P TD silent intake fan
400w light mh & 600w Dual Spec
Omega Dimmable digital ballast (250w, 400w & 600w).
120w tube heater
1 x humidifier
1 x clip on 6inch fan
1 x Gse Humidity Temperature + negative pressure controller (controlling both fans)

PH reader, cf reader, ( as i will be keeping the PH around 5.7 to 6.0 using tap water also which is in a very soft water area
Using Shogun range of nutes still have plenty from last grow so want get them used and also using the great white root additive.

Done alot reading up on the autoflowers before started just so i dont start treating them the same way as normal photo plants.

Light schedule is 19/5 all way through (chose this mainly due to it being summer so lights go off at 12 in the afternoon and come back on a 5)

Plan to do some LST training. wont be topping or scrogging etc.

how long do you wait to swap the bulb to HPS first sign of flowering or ??

Also whats the ideal temps & RH to stick to during veg and flower? at moments temps are like 28 and RH 45/ 50%[/B]

Yeah, bit of a beast, weren't she ;) That one was topped but you can achieve similar results using LST, just keep the growing tip down & allow the lateral branches to catch up so that you gain an even height on all the new growing tips which will form your canopy :)

I've had great success from topping autos, it was Loki that got me curious about it after seeing his results :)

Ec will depend on your background EC mate. Soft water would be close to 0.2, so a feed of 0.7 after all nutrients are added would be fine for now.

Hey Joker, I would switch it to 24/0 when you start to notice flowers, normally from weeks 3-4

The A+B sounds like a good level at the moment, what is the EC?

For the cal/mag, I would make a solution up with 2-4 ml per litre, & use it as a foliar spray rather then added to feed, this spray should only be applied during the veg stage & very early flower stage (before any buds come out).

thing is Loki i fed last night with only a+b ( 1.5ml of each to litre and the EC is working out at 0.9 thats with out calmag. does this seem ok? maybe my nutes are tad stronger coz dont get why EC high with just 1.5ml) i also added in some great white for the roots this didnt effect the EC.

so you only use calmag in a spray at this stage? how often you think i should feed them as i am doing it every 2 days.

back plant on the right (afghani) growing way faster then other two. did bit of LST on it expose sum other areas to light. will post some pics mate an see what you think.

Hey Joker, plants look sweet so far mate.
Just use the cal/mag as a foliar spray while in veg, it will only need to be added to the mix while in flower.
If needed during flower, mix up first at 2 ml per litre, then add A+B to bring the EC to where it needs to be. At this stage every 2 days is fine but just keep an eye on temperatures as coco is unforgiving if it gets too dry.

Yea that Afghan is flying man never seen plant grow so quick. other two NYC and Northern are lil slow. also on them two i think i FIM a bit to early i have put few pics below as you can tell on the leaves? would it be to late to top them to now? or will that just slow them both down even further now?

fed last night A 1.5ml + B 1.5ml only EC was 0.9 that ok? gona do the calmag spray tonight as me spray bottle broke. yea these airpots seem to dry out faster then normal pots wonder if worth watering everyday??

Hey Joker, I will always try to push the plants to the limits, but if they seem happy & are growing without problems, keep the EC the same & keep doing what you're doing. I do like to push the EC up for the first week or so of flower as they demand a lot of energy to kick start the production of buds, I normally boost the PK by adding it at full strength to the A+B for the first week of flower, then bring it back to 1/4 strength & work the normal schedule for the remainder.

since i had move groom to garage. i bought new tent yesterday. they now in a 1.2x1.2x200 tent. so got extra bit room they stretched like crazy mainly the back right plant the afghani it kinda towers the other to :laugh: looks like the stretch has finished anyway. gave calmag foliar feed this mornin.

Hey Joker, you want to aim for around an ec of 1.2 - 1.5 for the first week of flower. I normally use 100ml each of a+b per 50 litres to get an ec of around 1.8. Start out with adding 10ml of each & checking what changes, this will lead you to knowing what mls change what & how it will affect the overall ec.

I've had that on a few of my leaves too Joker, never worked out what caused it, but will do some research about it & get back to you.

As for the PK, go in at a full strength dose for a week then drop it back to 1/4 strength. Aim for an EC of around 1.0 above your background. Mix the pk first then add a+b till you hit the ec level.

Hey Joker, sorry for the late reply mate, yeah starting to look good in there dude. What is your overall ec? Some of the lower leaves look a little faded. 1ml per litre is cool. The fist week of flower uses a lot of energy to start the process, a PK boost during that time really helps. Aim for an EC of around 1.4 for then next week or so.

Hey Joker, 1.5ml per litre is full strength for pk, 15ml per 10 litres is the dose on the bottle. Drop it down to 0.5ml per litre instead of the 0.25ml.
Make up a solution with Bigbud first then the pk, then add the a+b to get the ec up to 1.8. pH to 6.0 & the odd 6.2.

My general mix would be 2ml per litre of Bigbud,

The pk would range from 0.5 to 1.5ml per litre, depending on what week of flower.

A+B varies also depending on week of flower .

It's a bit long but if you test the ec at all the different stages of mixing, you will quickly find out what amounts of nutrient will raise the ec & how it will affect the pH. In my water 10ml each of a+b brings it up 0.2.

Normally with the cal/mag I would use as a foliar spray, but during flower I would use it as a drench instead, I'd have to double check the bottle but I think it's 1-2 ml per litre for coco/hydro drench. I would feed normally then as you're feeding every 12 hours, swap the second one for a cal/mag drench instead.

A Cal/Mag drench is just cal/mag mixed with water without the rest of the nutrients. I was thinking over my last post & it's better to give them the drench first, about an hour after lights on, then give the the normal feed.

Lol, your heads hurting, I thought these were photo period lol.

Right, drench them first, then give it an hour then feed as normal. You can mix it with the normal feed but it's better served as a separate feed. You don't normally need to give it to the plants very often, I go for once in veg & once in flower if needed.

Hey Joker, that overdrive is good stuff mate, I used some in a few of my grows. Use for the last 2 weeks before flush. 2ml per litre if I remember right, but judging by the fact I thought your plants were photo period, I will double check.

The feed for next week should be slightly less PK as the initial boost need for start of flower will level off a bit. Drop the pk down to 0.25ml per litre, keep the rest the roughly the same or till you hit 1.4ec, ph the same too.

I would only add the cal/mag if it's required, I used it 3 times in my last grow, twice in veg, week 3 then again in week 6. Then once in flower, but I mixed it with the big bud & a+b. Leave it 2 weeks & if the leaves are nice & green, then leave it.

Hey Joker, yeah sorry for the absence mate, my little sister had a baby & it's been a bit mad the last week or so.

Right, well they really look great dude, you're smashing it. The overdrive goes in for the last 2 weeks before flush, 2ml per litre. As it's a booster, add it first with the pk & bring the ec up to the desired level with the a+b. Wait for the first signs of amber trichomes before adding the overdrive.

Drop the bigbud down to 1ml per litre during the last 2 weeks while using the overdrive. Also drop the overall ec to 1.0 over the 2 weeks of overdrive use. The flush will do the rest, don't be alarmed by the yellowing during flush, it completely normal.

I meant that you should drop the ec to 1.0 over the course of 2 weeks. If you're knocking up the whole weeks worth at once, then add a little water & ph back to 6ish.

Hey Joker, 7 days is fine in coco for a flush mate, 5 at a push. As for the actual flush, I would put enough through to get 20-30% runoff every day. Don't ph the water either, straight from the tap is fine. The reason for not ph'ing is you want the plant to use up any nutrients in the medium & leaves. Having the pH out if range will force the plant to cannibalise itself of any leftover nutrition.

Sorry to hear about the bud rot mate, it's a right cunt when you get it. Hopefully you'll see it through to the end without any more popping up.

Hey Joker, if it's a penned in deadline then I would start the flush, you'll need to give yourself time air out as chopping will stink your place something different. You'll also want to chop as close to your move date, as you don't want to have you freshly chopped buds in a box too long.

If you can give them another week, without causing a problem, then I would give them the week.

i used it in the winter and tbh its nothin spesh it will keep the floor area nice warm but it only adds couple degrees i would say. i had that on with lights off and also a small mini oil rad on outside tent with intake suckin the warm in. i reckon two of them could be good though.

Hey Joker, I hang them by the stalks after trimming, make sure you leave a long stem, you can cut then down a bit when hanging them. Aim for temps around 21°c, 50-60 RH. Keep your extraction on & have a desk fan blowing but not directly at the buds. Leave for 4 days then check if a decent sized stalk snap cleanly, if not check back daily. If it does, it's time for the jars mate. Burp the jars 2-3 times daily for a week then once a day for the next week. Once the bud starts to really stink, check RH, aim for around 60% in the jars. Test small buds after the second week for smoothness and flavour. Also be vigilant for mould, it's very unlikely but it's better to be safe then sorry. The main thing is that the buds are fully dry & the stems snap clean before jarring, they will start to go airy but will tighten back up as they dry. They will also lose around 2/3rds of the weight.

bloody mold been pain in ass, so will be keeping eye out man

so chop all done. started at 9am sat morn finished at 10.30pm :laugh: hard work that shit lol. got the mrs to chip in every now an then. :laugh:
never grown buds like this before some of them were friggin huge man.
also lost another two half decent sized colas to mold! they were at back of tent air flow at back mustnt have been good enough.
had think bout why this happened i had good temps an RH thru flower with plenty fans..but i upgraded tent size from 90x90 to a 1.2mx1.2m half way through and didnt upgrade the intake and outtake so wondering if the air change wasnt good enough??
all drying out now temps are around 21.22 RH is 50/55
just hope weather dont go hot as i wont have much control of tent temps goin up

Really happy with what i pulled, cudnt believe how well the afghani done it was beast from the get go though. granted i lost couple colas at back tent so would have had more but i didnt bother keeping them. probs got about 2 an half oz of airy kinda bud. rest are pretty compact. didnt help having high temps during flower with the hot weather.

looking forward to setting up again in next couple weeks once moved home.
