Whole story started with smoking some bommmb bud...
next thing you know 5 nice ass seeds are discovered
so i let my bro andrew know that i had them germing
so he took a cabinet i had, 2 pc fans, and two cfl grow bulbs and made me a stealth grow box.... so far the seedling are coming off great
no nutes, nothing but dirt and water, they are just weeds so why not grow them naturally like the hippy i am....

LadyJane

soon I'll be smoking some home grown bomb weed, it isn't a need......but in the end it will be nice to say....... i succeed
hmmm why did hey die? thats the question! too cold? over nuted? too hot?
apart from that nice small stealth grow :)
how high can the lights go?
LadyJane
29-09-09, 10:36 PM
no idea, one of the unlucky ones. not too col or too hot because the healthy ones are doing great, with new sets of leaves showing already. the lights can't go any higher, that's their limit, a new growbox is being made as we speak
ahhh nice little seedling start room then. still. i'd be worried as to why the seedlings did die after sprouting. surely thats not normal? lol i don`t think seedling survival rate is down to luck. ;)
LadyJane
30-09-09, 08:32 AM
They died because i planted them too early. i was going away for the weekend and didnt want them to get moldy germinating still but i guess it was too early. still kinda new at this but its ok bought 2.5oz for a friend tonight and we got 9 usable seeds out of it so we have those on backup now.
as of right now im a little concerned about el primero because it was doing well i had it planted in a 2 litre soda bottle in the windowsill, but my dad told me to take it out so it was in my closet without light for 4 or 5 days and i havent seen much growth since putting it in the growbox with the others
you can't plant seeds to early, thats what they are designed for. to be planted as soon as possible. you can stick em str8 into soil 1st without any pre-soaking and still get a very high success rate.
LadyJane
01-10-09, 01:29 AM
alright this is getting besides the point lol i know i messed em up and im ok with it and its nothing anyone should be worried about. the three plants that i do have, and all i have room for anyways, are doing great. pics soon

Alright i know theres a lot of updates, but im a stoner and have nothing better to do when im not working. These are the first plants i've also been able to grow more than the first set of leaves on because they arent constantly being stolen by parents...
As of right now the lights are on 24/7 but will soon go on a timer when my bedroom is fully moved into and i get the new and improved growbox [heres a pic but its not done]
https://www.thctalk.com/gallery/data/500/medium/pandora2.jpg
hopefully this will be big enough until i can find something bigger to accommodate them.
The soil is something out of my backyard. not entirely sure what it is but i know its recycled soil my dads used for growing both indoor and outdoor plants and it seems to be working so im not complaining. We arent measuring humidity and temperature and all that just kind of going off what works for us, when things get further along ill end up getting all that but for now no apparent need. No nutes, just watering whenever i feel the soils dry and still germing 3 seeds. One is about ready even though i only put it in last night and the others have been for 2&3 weeks, They were pretty old but it looks like theyre finally about ready also. Hope theres room for 3 more seedlings!
Well heres the real update, pics i took of all 3 because i was so surprised at how different they were from when i woke up and when i got off work.
El Primero

that whole middle outburst wasnt there this morning, there were 2 little leaves poking out but i was happy it was just growing again after it not doing anything for about a week.

finally got its second set to pop out there. looking better than it has.
thats it for now!
looking healthy m8 :)
keep an eye out for insects if you sook soil from yur yard, esp if u didnt sterilise it. lots of insects bury there eggs in soil to hatch into grubs and the like. keep an eye out thats all :)
keep us all updated!
LadyJane
06-10-09, 03:32 AM
Ive been trying to be patient with the updates. i havent taken pics in a few days so i dont have those to update as of right now, but things have been going alright.
Sunday we got a gallon of filtered water and added a few drops of nutes to it because we hadnt been putting any in and the leaves were starting to yellow. I have also switched the plants into all bigger pots with a bag of clean garden soil so nothing dug out of the backyard in haste. One of the seeds has also successfully sprouted so im gonna plant that soon as i get another pot. Things seem to be looking up so hopefully ill be able to show you soon!

Alright so as promised i have updated pics, not bad since the last ones hopefully youll be pleased with the growth, i am! [i guess thats all that matters anyways right?!]
Heres the most updated cabinet transformation with all of the plants in it. I am obviously going to have to upgrade again when the seedling gets bigger and hopefully the last 2 seeds germinate. Im not giving up on them yet!

Ive been doing some more reading and have come to find that males mature faster and that most people are alright with plants going a little slow because they tend to turn out female. True? if so thats good because so far 2 of the plants have had slower growth and 2/3 is a good enough ratio for me!

Possible nute deficiency i'm thinking because i just put nutes in the water a day or two ago and these began appearing 5-7 days ago. Kinda hard to see in the pic but the tips were yellowing and now they're turning brown. maybe the nutes helped and stopped it from getting worse now its contained to the initial area? anyways if things continue on alright ill be happy
https://www.thctalk.com/gallery/data/500/medium/Numero_uno_problemas.jpg
Numero Uno also has a funny deformity. When it was first growing i noticed this odd split... the opposite leaf is normal and looks healthy!
https://www.thctalk.com/gallery/data/500/medium/Numero_Uno_deformity.jpg
and lastly the newest edition...another bagseed find out of what i know of as only "Purple Chronic" so that shall be its new title and we'll hope for a girl! [sure as hell better be after taking at least 2 months to germ!]
https://www.thctalk.com/gallery/data/500/10-07-09_Purple_Chronic.jpg
As you can see they have been replanted. At the bottom of each pot is a layer probably 2inches thick of lava rocks, mostly for hydro i think, but i didnt have perlite and figured this would loosen up the bottom. Used fresh soil this time and as you can see from the pics i have started to LST them. I figure i want to make the most out of what i have and get them started early. if things go well i might keep them in this cabinet. That, however, will ultimately depend on my female/male ratio.
one question i do have is the light schedule. ive got a timer sitting in my nightstand drawer should i start them on something because as of now theyre on 24/7. Ive been reading up on micro grows and it seems interesting to go 12/12 all throughout if youre limited on space. I want to get as much as i can out of this area so im going to give it a decent vegging time but that could always be an open option...?

oh, and we are planning to repot them as soon as i can get some more soil so dont worry about that i know theyre outgrowing these ones too :-)
and another note for anyone else who is thinking of growing but isnt sure because theyre limited on space...LST works wonders! weve been trying to lst the crap out of them and thats why numero unos turning into a bushy little shit! if you want real proof check out Tetra's balcony LST...that is some crazy training!

Be careful using pipecleaners to strap your babies down with as they absorb moisture and can cause problems with rot later on. Looking damn fine though.:thcleaf:
LadyJane
15-10-09, 02:20 AM
thanks EB didnt know that about the pipecleaners. thinking of finding something better when i repot because they bend better than they stick into the soil and when i water the dirt moves away from them so they end up coming out anyways.
any suggestions?

hello my u.k. friends.... all is well in the box, still may have a small deficiency, but other than that they have been growing like crazy reaching for the higher lights. LST bushed them and the higher lights have been stretching them. and of course they needed transplants, using a canadian peat moss soil .04-0.00-0.00
here is number 4 stretching for the light... turning light green/darker yellow... what's the deficiency?

here is number 2's root system... may be small but hairs everywhere on the roots... doing work =)

next up is el primero... small but it's uniform leaves will pay off with a even light spread in the end
https://www.thctalk.com/gallery/data/500/medium/10-17-09El_Primero_topview.jpg
lastly is numero uno, the boss taking off, bushing, and stretching for the cflo's..... even getting a second branch thanks to LST

this is the classic symptom of nutrient and/or pH burn

The bigger plants are being watered with nutes every few days otherwise just filtered water. We also used some epsom salts the other day because the lower leaves were starting to look like they had a magnesium deficiency.
Let us know what you think!the plants dont need any extra nutes as they are in enough soil to feed them, so applying more nutrient to already rich soil will cause a nutrient build up and will slowly toxify the soil
.... using a canadian peat moss soil .04-0.00-0.00...
... turning light green/darker yellow... what's the deficiency?
https://www.thctalk.com/gallery/data/500/medium/10-17-09Numero_Uno_topview.jpg

https://www.thctalk.com/gallery/data/500/medium/10-17-09numerounodeformity.jpg
let me know what you think of the defies, i've got my bets on magnesiumthere is no deficiency going on in any of these plants,
in all these pic the plants are showing signs of nute burn caused by excessive pH imbalance and over-fertilization
the tips and edges of the leaves are showing the classic burn marks
and also the general twisted look of the leaves is caused by constant pH fluctuations which, im guessing, is being caused by the difference between the pH of your soil mix and the pH balance of the water/nutrients you've been adding
i see you have been using a combination of garden and peat moss soil, which leads me to think that the overall acidity of the soil is too high and is causing most of these symptoms
my advice is to stop adding nutrients as you will gradually over-fertilize your soil and kill the plants
also to get a pH test kit or pH meter pen and measure your waters pH levels and adjust to 6.5 pH before watering your plants, this is the ideal pH level for watering plants grown in soil, and will help reduce the constant pH imbalance and fluctuation
you have an excellent little diary on the go here,
i hope my advice offered will help your plants grow into some cracking smoke! :)
cheers

may also be a salt buildup, we first thought that it was lacking magnesium so wee added epsom salts, not alot but it may have been feeding the buildup... we'll be sure to start using water only, no nutes

the seedlings were on top of a milk box close to the light in the back and the one in front was waaay too close and fried. Not too worried about it because its the same seed as numero uno and #2. 5 plants would have been a lot to squish in there anyways...
and finally...

the overall picture of how much space is left and the box in general. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
-Also the nute burn does not seem to be spreading, ive been watering with only filtered water whenever the soils dry and the pots seem light-
looking good their lady jane!!
a nice recovery it seems, as those plants look nice and healthy from the new growth to me :)
gets fun don't it? :) keep it up!
may also be a salt buildup, we first thought that it was lacking magnesium so wee added epsom salts, not alot but it may have been feeding the buildup... we'll be sure to start using water only, no nutes
thats what over-fertilization is, a build up of the nutrient (salt) minerals ;)

however, numero uno and el primero are both definitely female we can see the pistils even more today. the seedlings is doing well also doesnt seem to be in shock from the switch from 24/0 to 12/12. we also cut a few clones and stuck them in rooting powder and rockwool cubes. hopefully we can get one more decent plant from one of those.
well get pics up when they start to show a little more and are more exciting for all of you who are used to this by now lol.

forgot to mention something! there are, what appear to be, fruit flies flying around in there. there only seem to be a couple at a time so i can usually squish em pretty easily but they keep coming back. was surfing threads and found that someone used a "carnivorous plant" to kill em. i remember seeing a baby venus fly trap at the hardware store a week or two back think this would do the trick?

Good plan! i got a couple of them knocking about too. dont think they are fruit flies but yeah they are similar. Get a Venus in there :D

Think they're fungus gnats mate - had loads of them in my last grow but they weren't harmful. They laid eggs in my soil - if you re-pot, try microwaving the soil for a few seconds before you use it. :thcleaf:

my octupus plant has been devouring these little gnats like crazy. put it in last night and there are already 5 or 6 little gnats stuck in his "tentacles" pretty cool, but thanks EB for the info i was wondering if they were harmful and i should freak out or not lol

alright well a couple of nights ago my grow partner snapped the top off of numero uno and hopefully we cloned it right so itll turn out to be a good thing. and weve got a third confirmed female so that brings us to 3/4 fems: purple chronic, purple kush, and some bagseed. pic updates later, pistils are getting nice and milky and there should be something exciting to see in a week i bet
